macOS 27 Wishlist: What Do You Want From Apple at WWDC 2026?

We have four days to go until Apple's WWDC keynote event begins on Monday, June 8. iOS 27 has been the focus of most of the rumors, but we're also going to get a new version of macOS, macOS 27.

Some of the same features that are coming in iOS 27 will come to macOS 27, like the new version of Siri and the dedicated Siri app, but we want to hear from MacRumors readers. What are you hoping to see in macOS 27?

Do you want updates to Liquid Glass? Changes to multitasking? Bug fixes? Better external display support? Improved memory management since no one can afford RAM anymore?

Guessing the name Apple will choose for the next version of macOS is always fun. There are still plenty of California landmarks for Apple to choose from, and the filename of Apple's hashmoji for the event on X hints that macOS Big Bear is a possibility.

I'd like to see smart phones having built in screen translation which can automatically overlay or replace any text not in your own language. Obviously there would have to be a pre-loaded mini-LLM but that is already the case for spoken translation. Which is why I think it is do-able as an extension of that.
Maybe not so useful for English speakers like us but certainly helpful for the RoW non-English speakers wishing to use Apps and website etc not offering translations.

How about......I hope Apple observes how Microsoft is trying to shoehorn A.I. into every facet of Windows and does the opposite with MacOS? We have Siri. That's enough. We don't need an agent in every freaking app too. I also don't want MacOS to be agentic. I know how to use a computer. I don't need A.I. to perform tasks for me.

Aside from reverting almost every single UI change made in macOS 26 16, perhaps more than anything, return to building real macOS applications instead of lazily replacing them with ******, ported iPad applications. Music is an irritating mess and a bunch of other utilities (like Reminders and Messages, for example) hardly work, if they do at all, with the keyboard because of it. My wish is to reverse the slow death of macOS via iOS-ification. Oh, and return FileVault to true FDE so I can get back to removing some of Apple's clutter in my applications folder.

An Apple ergonomic Magic Mouse with gestures. MacBooks with cell chips to add to phone plans. Hotspots are lame. Nano texture screen options for the MacBook Air. A freaking Apple TV refresh.

I've posted this once before, but here is my incredibly basic usability wish-list.

  • a real manual EQ that works in any app and also remembers individual settings for each audio output device.
  • an option to have a button to skip music tracks directly in the map app, rather than having to fumble around
  • swipe left or right to skip tracks on the lock screen rather than have to carefully press the small buttons
  • the ability to have a shortcut to turn off the screen immediately, like you can with a back tap, instead of only going to the lock screen first, or even better a swipe down directly from the upper left corner to lock the screen - instead of having to pick it up to hit the side button when it is on a table or docked
  • maybe hot corners like macos, so for example you could also get to control center by swiping up on one of the lower corners, or activate some other feature, like the lock I spoke of above
  • a mono toggle for control center (right now i have to use a shortcut, but it will not show the current state by highlighting the button like a real one would)
  • a real firewall so i can actually block ip addresses that the app privacy report generates. right now it will show you random IPs or URLs but you can't do anything about it other than delete the app
  • ability to restrict app access to wifi like you can with mobile data
  • the ability to select whatever charge level you wish or just pass through charging (please let the older devices do this too. There was a jailbreak tweak that allowed this going back to at least the iphone 5, so you don't need special hardware or AI...LOL. It's built in to the battery charge controller since forever.) This is useful particularly when on a wireless car charger and doing navigation - i don't need it to always charge and get incredibly hot, i just want it to pass through the power it needs from the charger.

That whole “catalyst” thing was a bad idea. MacOS apps were always beautiful and well crafted. Quality over quantity. And now everything is either an iPad app or a web app in a box.
