Hello everyone đź‘‹
I was not able to download Catalina via System Preferences as the download process gets interrupted every time, says the connection was lost, tried "multiple" times; resume downloading doesn't seem to be working properly as it always resumes from 511.x MB 🤷‍♂️ Is there any fix for this? Or is there any reliable website that I can download the installer file directly?

Happened with me all previous day. This morning I was able to download and install Catalina through regular update utility.

Man, what a mess this Catalina is.

This has been happening to me, too!

I just bought the 2019 MBA, and it can not for the life of me get Catalina to download.

Like you said it begins downloading at 511-ish MB, then comes to a halt and estimates 3 days to finish the download. No solutions work.

*sigh*

Doubt it has anything to do with Catalina and most likely has to do with your Internet speed. This reminds me of dial up days...remember, it's a server delivering the OS to you...if connection to the server got broken for any reason, you'll have to start over. I never had a problem, and I downloaded mine at 11:00am. Also, if you're downloading by WIFI and there are others using the same WIFI, the speed will reduce creating potentials for hiccups.

It's not a internet connection/speed issue. I have 200mbps and have no issue downloading anything from the Mac App Store or any other site. I'm only having issues with downloading Catalina.

Well, if it's not your Internet speed then consider this: That's why it's best to download the same day it becomes available...days later, that's when everyone else around the WORLD will be downloading...the server(s) doesn't have infinite connections capacity...you guys just happened to try when the server reached its max capacity. Try again later! How can a new OS that's not installed have anything to do with downloading!

It's the omen.

It gives you the extra time to think very carefully about what you're gonna do.

All those tears that you shed afterwards are in vain...

After talking to Apple Support, they said it's a software problem with either 10.14 or 10.15. So my MBA is currently bricked. Going to see the Genius Bar on Saturday

I had the same issue downloading Catalina, downloading the 10.15.1 beta 1, and now downloading beta 2. All of them freeze up at a random point, and I have to keep pausing and resuming the download to eventually finish it.

I don't understand how your computer bricked when you where downloading Catalina...did you attempted to install an incomplete download? The intuitive installer would not enable you do that...your experience is just not making sense!

Apple had me wipe the SSD, to start from scratch. When we attempted to reinstall macOS in recovery, the download kept failing. Now, I have a computer without an operating system. So upon boot, all I get is the ?Folder icon.

That just means you don't have an OS installed not bricked bricked means you can't do anything to fix except replace the board

Managed to install fresh installation of Catalina today. Took me several attempts, as downloader died with some error, but on 4-th push, install went through.

Luxurious experience, dear Apple.

Okay, not bricked, bricked as TimothyR734 said...if I were you, I would let Apple provide you with a bootable jump drive with Catalina for free since they were the one telling you to wipe your SSD. That way you won't need to deal with the Internet.

I have an appointment in less than one hour. I'm hoping they do provide me with a jump drive. It's been three days of trying to install Catalina

Good luck!

Your "disaster" is one reason why after I download the full installation file, I quit that process (ie, do not let the installation proceed), and then make a copy of that installer file to another location on my Mac. With that, I will have that installer file on my SuperDuper! backup (one needs to make some kind of backup before either doing a full installation, or an upgrade from one OS to another).

I'm back from my appointment...

They said it's a compatibility issue with the T2 chip, and that I should try to install Catalina when 10.15.1 comes out. So I'll be rocking Mojave for a while I guess.

A situation like this is just one example why I prefer to do a clean installation of the new Mac OS by first downloading the full installation file, then stop the "automatic" installation to make a copy of that installation file to another location. Better to be safe than sorry!
