Hi Fellas

Have a MacPro 4,1/5,1/5,1 Dual which all have a RX580 Cards, all running well with OCLP

Since OS14.6 upwards I noticed that the Steam App won't work with OCLP 2.0.1, but works great with OCLP 1.5.0, so I wonder if I should not Use OCLP 2.0 upwards for MP's 4,1/5,1 running macOS14.6 upwards. (but I guess I loads the same driver package with the KDK?). (In macOS12 there's no impact on the OCLP Versions as I see so far...)

Also i noticed that the Music app crashes when I start the virtualiser screen (cmd + t), doesn't work sind 14.6 upwards, these happens on all 3 MP. (not dramatical but I wonder if Apple changed somewhat deep under the hood that can't be fixed...)

Is it just me or has someone with MP's 5,1 experienced the same issues? Find nothing on the net - can't believe I'm the only one on the road with an old MacPro and OCLP ;-)

Thanks for any hints.

Apple changed their compiler settings when they released macOS 14 and the new settings allow AVX2 instructions. Slowly, Apple apps are being updated and recompiled and as they are updated they acquire AVX2 instructions, generally speaking, if the app has video. This is likely why the virtualizer is not working now. So, until someone implements an emulation for AVX2 we will slowly see more and more apps that fail to work. I recall Intel had an emulator at one point but it is no longer supported on macOS.

Regarding OCLP 2.0.1, I suspect uptake is slow since Sequoia was just released and users are probably waiting for one or two point releases before updating. That is, there is no urgent need to update OCLP if things are fine with 1.5.0 on your existing Sonoma installation. Hopefully someone from the OCLP team will see your report here and can reproduce the problem.

I had major issues with macOS 14.6.1 and OCLP 2.0.1 where Steam was running into the "SteamWebHelper, a critical Steam component, is not responding. The Steam UI will not be usable. Click here for more information..." etc. followed by options to restart Steam without GPU Acceleration etc. I uninstalled, reinstalled, recovered old versions from TimeMachine backups all without any luck. I searched ChatGPT and Google for solutions and followed every suggestion, to no avail.

I updated to OCLP 2.0.2 today, and for some reason Steam is running correctly again. Dunno if connected or not.

Yes i can confirm oclp 2.0.2 is working in os15.0 with steam, so i guess they found a fix for that bug. (i guess same in 14.6 upwards, and in 13.7 was the same) better to stay on older versions as Steve said, but painpoint are the update notices all the time.

Well quick fix is to make the dual boot of windows 10/11 and put steam on that and utilize your great hardware :) - i do that. all good here. Basically its a quick install and good to go ? ps i run Monterey, Sequoia and Sonoma as well. Did not use Steam on MacOS, but in Windows.

;-) Nice try, but it's not about that, it's about if it works, and it does again. Also Win 10 ist EOL by End of year and Win 11 sucks. Before Win i install Ubuntu, works well with steam too.
