What is this obsession with guns, I mean take a look in this section and it is nearly all about guns or gun related. Is there really nothing more to life?

Shootings being common + constitutional rights = never ending gun discussions.

Because lots of innocent people are getting shot (and killed) everyday in America and for some reason most people's solution to that over there is buying a gun rather than a ****ing clue.

    You live in england.

Country of banning people from entering because they don't speak what the regime wants them to speak.
Country of BigBrother surveillance and thought crime.
The amerians used guns to chase out your horrible forefathers.
And that's why they are attached to them and you don't want them to have any.
    ;)

While guns are useful if your neighbours drop by unexpectedly.;)

You yourself don’t have to take up guns, you just wait for someone else to do that.

It's more like an obsession with gun threads and you just started another one.

They revolted against a king who controlled the colonies from across an ocean.

That's a lot different from revolting against a government of the people.

    Can you see the difference?

All rulers justify their reign somehow.
"Government of the people", "appointed by god", take your pick, it's all the same.

Of course. But in the case of the people, they can be voted out when they no longer justify it.

True for the first comment. :)

For the second comment, I thought it was called a Representative Democracy? Yep majority rule, but that's a mislabel to call it a dictatorship which is usually an individual calling the shots. I think the framers of the Constitution did an excellent job setting up a House of Representatives balanced by a Senate as far as trying to balance out different blocks of voter priorities.

It's called checks and balances and separation of power and an armed populous is part of this system :)

So we tolerate ~30,000 lives lost a year on the possibility that the government (of the people) will become tyrannical, despite the fact that nothing like that has happened in well over 200 years? In the meantime we incur a loss of life that is itself akin to what one would expect from a cataclysmic war.

That sounds like an utterly idiotic trade-off to me.

And bad things happen when the populace is armed. Upwards of 30 000 times per year.

    Don't like it? Don't buy a gun!
I don't own a gun either, but I don't advocate taking free citizens rights away.
