Not sure what else to say here. I have a Magic Keyboard and a 12.9” M1 iPP. I’m having a strange issue where the keyboard is rapidly disconnecting and reconnecting such that the mouse pointer will vanish and keystrokes are missed. Sometimes, but not always, the lit keyboard will go out. I’ve had the iPP hard crash once, too. This wasn’t happening before the iPadOS 16.3.1 update.

Does anyone have any insight of how I can test if it’s the iPad hardware, the keyboard hardware, or a bug in the iPadOS update? I don’t have access to another iPad to test.

I’m guessing it’s not the software since I am not seeing gobs of people complaining. However, I don’t want to start replacing hardware until I know what it is that isn’t working, especially if its the iPad because the M2 iPP just isn‘t a worthy upgrade to spend that kind of money on. I did clean the Smart Connector on the iPad and the pins on the keyboard to no effect.

Thanks for your suggestions.

I never had experience this issue. Probably the connector? Are you able to fresh install and see how the issues?

My 9.7” Smart Keyboard would do that because the contacts were scratched/dirty. Can you go somewhere that sells them so you can test if its your iPad or your keyboard?

I had this issue with the first generation 12.9-inch iPad Pro and its Smart Keyboard. But that was a known issue in those first Smart Keyboards for the first and second generation 12.9-inch iPad Pro and the 9.7-inch iPad Pro. This would be entirely different. Though, I'd be very curious to see if this was the kind of issue that was at all widespread. The Magic Keyboard really makes the 12.9-inch iPad Pro something that can replace a laptop COMFORTABLY.
