Mail and Gmail dont update each other

I don't know if this even possible, but how can I sync my mail and Gmail so that when I have read an email on my iPhone or on Gmail.com it is updated as "read" in Mail.?

I have Mobile Me. but that doesn't seems to fix this. I also don't care if it downloads my mail to my mac, i just want to be able to view my mail on my iPhone. and then get to my mac and view any new mail there. right now I have no new email on my iPhone,but on my mac i have 100+ unread messages

Change your Gmail account configuration in Mail to use IMAP instead of POP. Make sure your iPhone is configured to use IMAP for Gmail too.
