mail and gmail

is it possible to tell mail not to import ALL mail that i have on gmail? i want to start using the mail.app but it insists on importing all my email from my gmail account (about 3gb....) wich is quite annoying. i've checked the "Enable POP for mail that arrives from now on" thing but it still imports every single email....

because it will also import ALL email.

It'd still be smarter, easier, and more efficient to use IMAP. And as far as I know, unless you archive your old mail, it will always get all of your mail.

with IMAP even with all my mail archived, it will import everything.
