iPod touch mail.app password settings

I have everything installed properly and it works, but Mail always prompts me with

Cannot Get Mail
No password provided for user "something@gmail.com" on server "pop.gmail.com"

Please go to Mail Account Settings and enter a password.

I've made sure all my apps, and even the mailsettings.bundle were chmod'd properly, but despite my efforts, it simply won't save my password settings. It almost seems like the password gets erased whenever I exit out of the Settings app. I've tried inputting my password many times into the account settings, but every time I touch Mail, the same error shows up.

I'd love to get mail.app working.

Any feedback?
