Just installed Monterey (over the top of Big Sur) on a spare 2015 11" MacBook Air. All went well except when I open the Mail app it beach balls. Only option is to Force Quit. Any idea? Tried shutting down and restarting. Is there maybe a pref file I should trash and re-add my mail info.

Managed to get it to work. I quit the parent item of the Mail application in Activity monitor. That caused the machine to reboot and all seems well.
Would appreciate knowing what you did, looked in Activity monitor but could not see what application or how to quit a process.
Thanks

When I went into the mail application in Activity Monitor it was coloured red and showed not responding. Double clicked the Mail process which opened the detail panel. I then clicked on the parent process which opened another window and as far as I can remember I quit this process using the ( Quit ) button at the bottom of the window and the machine rebooted. It restarted and now populated my mail.

I followed the process as above, ran an update fro Office and ran clean my Mac program.
Left it overnight and it seems to be ok now.
