I'm able to recieve emails but I'm unable to send any. Could it be that the firewall is up or that my connection is through a route?

are you sure you have the right port specified and everything in mail? i have a firewall up and a firewall up on my router and i have no problem sending out emails at all

Doesn't it automatically update the port?

are you on a POP3 service? if so check your outgoing SMTP setting, its usually something like outgoing.yourprovider.com but it varies by provider.
