The idiot in the White House is looking to withdraw the US from yet another treaty to make his ego feel better. The moron wants to withdraw the US from the international postal treaty, (it's only a 144 years old and has worked quite well to keep the mails flowing). This is all connected to his trade war with China. By the time this cretin is done with the US we will have to renegotiate every treaty we've ever signed, because of his wrecker lunacy.

Looks like it has support though.. From the link:

The Trump administration says current rules allow for foreign postal services to send packages to the United States at highly subsidized rates, and amount to an unfair system that hurts the U.S. postal service and U.S. consumers.

The U.S. National Association of Manufacturers has applauded the planned U.S. move, calling the postal pact "outdated" in the age of e-commerce and at a time of Chinese manufacturing dominance.

UPS expressed support for the administration's move.

"Foreign postal operators should not be given government approved advantages in what is a competitive market," spokeswoman Kara Ross said in an e-mail. "All parties should pay the same parcel delivery rates for the same services from the U.S. Postal Service, regardless of whether the country of origin is foreign or domestic."

Of course UPS supports this, because postal services to or from the US will become more expensive.

The sheer idiocy of their position is obvious. They want the rest of the world to peg their postage rates to the USPS? That's about the stupidest thing I've ever read, and that's saying a lot in the Trump era.

USPS is already expensive to ship FROM the US.

Exactly. Why should the rest of the world have to peg their postage rates to a postal entity that cannot even run at break even levels?

Most of the time it makes no sense to buy stuff from the US instead of locally.

If the pattern persists, then the other parties in the treaty will relent and make concessions. This will preserve the treaty with fairer and on more equitable terms for the United States.
