I’m almost a year on iOS. From 12.3 until 13.3.1 now. And the default mail app only checks for mails when you open the app. Is this normal behaviour for iOS ? Because when you use an other app, for example outlook, mails pop up automatically. You don’t have to actually use the app.

I saw the topic. But I wondered because I never got push notifications from mail. On 12.3 I also didn’t got them.... And yes, it’s activated in preferences.
 
My emails (Exchange and Gmail) are coming in and notifying me on iOS 13.3. I've seen some different behavior now and then but definitely getting notifications.
 
I’m getting notifications, however I have to swipe down in Mail in order to load the announced mails.
