A compilation of past studies was just released showing that cell phones in the pants pockets of males is not good for their reproductive health.

Do you carry a cell phone in your pants pocket ? If so, do you worry about the results of these studies ? Should cell phones (iPhone included) carry a warning label ?

Firstly, the thread title is a bit misleading.

Secondly, the Mail is not what I regard as a credible source on anything. Not science, not politics, not economics, certainly not history.

Moreover, I very much doubt that mobile (or cell) phones tucked in a pants pocket are the only reason for the decline in the male sperm count over the past century.

    Possibly.

As a Daughter of Eve, I'm not sure I should - or could - comment on that.

On a more serious note, I suspect that perhaps environmental issues may have had an impact, as well.

They didn't do the study of course, they only relayed the results. You can read the study here (At least, I assume that is the one).

    Underware or underwear?

What are you guys wearing that might cause a problem? For women, much underwear is an especially poorly designed form of torture, but I did not realise that our male kin laboured under similar trials and tribulations.

Anyway, cotton shorts - or underwear - shouldn't cause a problem.

Thank you for posting the link.

As a source, I must say that the Mail has so little credibility, that I would doubt their ability to relay or report the results of a study of this nature accurately; certainly, hey are a source that I would never choose to cite in support of anything.

Let's see cell phones kill gonorrhea and syphilis bacteria or herpes virus cells.

But I suppose the next iphone game can be called "Virtual Vasectomy". All it does is prevent sleep mode and make random calls every 15 minutes to the weather phone line and, after a few weeks of use, say "toodles" to the special ingredient found in the baby batter.

    Eww.

Another thought, with the old analog headphone jack going bye-bye because we need to litter more landfills with bluetooth headsets when the non-replaceable and proprietary battery design is thrown out, how do those thing affect the brain due to close proximity? Didn't Apple's Board members consider both environmental impacts and health or don't they give a **** about pro-life issues and just want to keep finding ways to corral customers to pony up mo' money mo' money mo' money for them?

You know the answer to that. Apple is a business so it's all about money.

It actually had to do with them being too tight. When I was trying to get pregnant the first time, husband was wearing little bikini type undies. (Yea, they were the rage in the 80s.) Doctor told him to switch to boxers or at least very loose fitting briefs and let the boys breathe. Six weeks later - pregnant.

Fascinating anecdote; yes, I remember those - what you eloquently describe as 'little bikini type undies'; personally, I have to say that I much preferred the sight of boxers - they became fashionable sometime in the mid late 80s, if memory serves.

Actually, my thoughts were on the material used - cotton is a natural fabric, allowing skin to breathe - rather than how tight the garments are/were, although I had seen references to that elsewhere.

I was thinking about that the other day when I read a comment here from some poster about, I think, Gary J and who was jokingly dismissing him partly because of some cancer/mobile phones connection - which I'm curious to know in 15-20 years from now when long term effects can be seen.

And yes, I try not to wear it too near to my heart / within my jacket. ;)

I'm in my mid 50's so I don't worry about a cell phone in my pants pockets. They say that the mind is the second thing to go :D.

Yea, well you gotta put it somewhere.

Male disadvantage is that you don't have a bag on you by default (somewhat broad generalization, albeit not totally inaccurate I'd say). But I wasn't really joking, I do feel somewhat bad when I have it next to my heart for a longer period (=try to avoid that). I haven't read anything about that btw in recent years, but my brain tells me that such a receiver is possible doing harm in the long run (and yes, I know that it'd hit me regardless..).

The new phones are so clunky, I mostly don't put them into my (incredible expensive designer :D) pants anymore anyway.

Remember, the reason for the sack is that the testes are supposed to be a little bit cooler than regular body temperature for optimum sperm-growing conditions. Tight underwear, heat retaining/unbreathing fabric, and lots of sitting (compressing your genitalia into the body) all add up to increased heat and...well, if you saw our tomato plants this year, you'd understand.

Oh yes, I remember my school biology and reading some interesting material subsequently.

However, underwear made from natural fibres is always said to be a good idea in such a context, as it is comfortable, natural, and allows skin to breath.

I feel the low birth rate has more to with a real bad economy that has a real bad hangover and this will be the first generation worse off then their parents and that's depressing!

Plus what ever happened to kids today not wearing condoms anymore. Maybe I was in a moment of time (late 80's and early 90's) when everyone was sacred of HIV and that little rubber soldier was your best friend!:D

I agree that cotton is best, but boxers in cotton will serve better than briefs. What you lose in support, you gain in sperm count.

I am curious to know how many men actually wear underwear in anything other than cotton (or wool, I suppose) or some highly breathable mesh.

I've carried a cell phone in my pockets since 1998 and in the last 3 years have produced 2 daughters. I'm sure if you sellotaped them to your knackers 24/7 it might have an effect though.

I wear boxers and carry my phones in a holster. I have a holster case for each of my phones except the local-branded "4 MyPhone my81 DTV. I don't like putting my phone in my pocket because I wear loose pants and wide pockets. Sometimes I put my keys or change in those pockets. I lost multiple phones that way.

For a time, I smoked plenty of marijuana and thought I was sterile. But I got my current gf pregnant back in February before she miscarriaged. Now she takes the shot every three months. A previous gf also miscarriaged before. No nope. Still have my baby making mojo.

I grew up Roman Catholic and it seems our fancy method for male birth control is by pulling out. ;) That, telling us contraceptives are no good, and the rhythm method which led to a overpopulation in my country. Love my Catholic school teachers!

In my pocket or inner suit pocket. Never had issues. Decline of counts, sexual health let alone general health is attributed to stress, diet, and environmental conditions.
