It has been mentioned in other threads that gay people really shouldn't complain about having human rights and just quiet down--because life is hard. Such an enlightened perspective!

Linked below is the story of Kirk Andrew Murphy, who committed suicide at the age of 38. It turns out that he was "treated" by none other than George Rekkers at a government funded study at UCLA. He was conditioned, through beatings, to not be feminine. I point out Mr. Rekkers qualifications to illustrate how much a part of the establishment homophobia was--and still is. A government funded study at a major, well respected university -- to beat children who are too girly.

Of course, this was the George Rekkers who resigned in shame from a religious anti-gay organization after he went on a nice trip with a male escort.

Kirk's treatment was declared a success after completion.

A corpse is not feminine...no matter how you look at it.

I'm sorry, but you aren't nearly as sick and twisted as most GOP senators and all GOP representatives.

Ooh I've always wanted to use this line:

    Causation does not imply correlation.

This guy probably killed himself for other reasons, if he wanted the therapy he clearly felt he had a problem. If he committed suicide it could be for myriad reasons, it's useless to speculate.

He didn't want the therapy. It was forced on him as a 5-year old boy along with beatings each and every Friday night because his mom thought he was too feminine as a little boy. It's the man's family saying the therapy contributed so maybe they are on to something.

Look- If you're going to come in this forum, try to act like an adult. And you sit there and wonder why people have little patience with conservatives.

I'm not a conservative, I'm not right-wing. If you had paid attention you would have known that. I don't believe in left or right, they're just easy sociological terms for people to identify themselves to their peers

I know what PRSI has little patience for conservatives, because you all seem to have a decidedly liberal/left tilt.

You don't act like an adult with me so why on earth should I treat you like an adult?

Wow. Keep it up. You won't be here long if you insist on deliberately antagonizing people and trolling.

If you were trolling I might laugh and find it funny but, alas, I know you're serious. This makes your views even more patently absurd and ridiculous but not in a funny way. I can't laugh but instead am forced to shudder.

Not too many actual "conservatives" post here because not too many exist these days. They have been mostly squeezed out by RWNJ-types who cut and paste the same tired nonsense over and over and over and over and over, employing the most minimal cerebral activity in the process. The "liberal/left" tilt is not so much a matter of ideology as of approaching issues rationally.

Now, take this forum back to 1977 and see what those conservatives would have to say about its content. You might not even recognize them as "conservatives" just as many of us are frustrated by a noisy minority trying to drag the center even further to the right than they have already managed.

Forgive my ignorance but what is RWNJ? Religious wing nut jerk?

You say not many conservatives post here but it seems if anyone disagrees with a popular viewpoint they're automatically branded right-wing and/or conservative lol.

I would also disagree strongly with your assertion that liberal/left implies rationality. Many of them have a habit of rehashing the same tired arguments and branding anyone who disagrees a nazi or fascist.

Not true at all. There are numerous examples of actually interesting discussions between people who disagree.

That sort of name calling generally isn't tolerated here no matter who says it. I remember a while back participating in a thread in which someone was reprimanded for calling right-wingers fascist, just as those who call Obama a socialist are.

No one here has a problem with opposing viewpoints. People take issue with the way that you "argue" your point. Heck, I'm still trying to figure out what your "opposing viewpoint" is in this thread. So far, all it looks like is that you tried to say, "Correlation doesn't equal causation," and when someone corrected your mistake, you went completely off the reservation, and now we're nowhere near the original topic at all.

You're wrong, the name calling is tolerated unless it's someone doing it to the apparently "left/liberal" side.

My opposing viewpoint is that maybe he didn't kill himself because of behavioural therapy. I thought that was at least pretty clear.

I haven't "gone off the reservation" in the least; I tried to say it deliberately wrong because when most people use it in PRSI they are using it wrong.

I've been pretty cool and collected in this thread. Do I appear to be slavering and chomping at the bit full of self-righteous rage? If so that's probably your projection rather than my behaviour.

When people have asked me for evidence as to why islam is bad news or totalitarian or anti-human rights in other threads I have gladly provided the evidence but then they cease responding; later they'll ask me the same question again, provide evidence but once I do they once more ignore my valid points. This isn't arguing, it's just people have no answers and yet still refuse to change their minds or consider an alternative view. I never say anything about islam that isn't supported by fact.

In truth, there is some evidence to support what you perceive to be my assertion, but what I am really saying is that it is a matter of perception/perspective. You say "liberal/left-leaning" because that is what you see from your perspective. Most of the posters here are ideologically fuzzy: "left-ish" in some ways, "right-ish" in others. Read the content and you might see that ideological characterization is simply not appropriate (or maybe not, you might just see what you want to see).
