That was not an explanation; that was a rationalization of academic racial jargon from a UC Berkeley philosophy professor.

What was interesting was O'Malley's utter self-debasement and obsequious groveling.

Actually, it was a very compelling argument. You just don't like the conclusion.

Since you don't like the conclusion, you feel he shouldn't have apologized. Got it.

Our professor (who is the Maxine Elliot Professor in the department of comparative literature and the program of critical theory at the University of California, Berkeley) elaborates on why O'Malley was incorrect to say "All lives matter."

It's all clear to me now.

Agreed. Campaigning for office requires pleasing the special interest that sits before you.

If you're addressing a Jewish audience, you're going to emphasize issues they care about the most. You wouldn't say that Arab concerns are just as important as Israel. You wouldn't tell an audience of workers that the concerns of executives are as important as labor. You wouldn't tell an audience of women that violence against men is just as big of an issue.

All of these things are important, but the audience sitting before you would prefer to believe that their needs are on the forefront of the candidates mind.

What's not clear is your source.

Both your quotes appear to come from Judith Butler, not Maxine Elliot ...

Source is the NYT link in my quoted link (#2). And yes, all quotes of convoluted, nonsensical, post-modern gobbleygook are courtesy of Judith Butler who holds the prestigious Maxine Elliot chair in something or other.

I didn't bring Judith Butler into the conversation.

Brett Favre was censured for not clapping with the requisite amount of enthusiasm during Caitlyn Jennings’s ESPY award ceremony.

Martin O’Malley was attacked of for uttering “All lives matter” in the context of eliminating the death penalty in his home state of Maryland.

The far Left is becoming quite Stalinist in enforcing their invisible trip wires and speech codes.

This growing brand of leftist-ism is so off-putting, it makes conservatism look attractive.

If a band of lunatics can achieve that, then they're really doing something.

Why has the phrase "Black Lives Matter" come to mean that other lives don't matter?

We have to. The far right has become more fearless and open in their bigotry. They barely try to hide it anymore. Trump, anyone? Someone has to keep em in their place. ;)

Only to conservatives. After 20 years of shifting to the extreme right, why are conservatives so shocked that the far left is finally growing a pair and being more vocal? We need our own Limbaughs and Hannitys. I can understand how that might feel threatening to the right though.

There's actually a really good reason for that. Liberals don't listen to talk radio. It seems to be a conservative phenomenon. Kinda like NASCAR.

I guess liberals don't need talking head overlords to listen to on the talking box to make sure that someone agrees with them and make them feel like they're not a minority and tell them what to think. Righties have a need to be riled and made to feel like "our country" is being taken away from us by the left. The talking heads have taken notice and realized how much money there is to be made in fear mongering the most simple minded Americans, conservatives.

It's understandable that the right is threatened. You're losing the culture wars, your party has gone so far to extremism that you have no chance at 2016, you're outnumbered by Democrats in how Americans self identify. It's easy to feel screwed in that situation.

Attacking your own is an odd way of achieving that; however, we all know la révolution dévore ses enfants.

Bernie and O'Malley foolishly approached the Netroots Nation from a traditional late nineteenth or early twentieth century Leftist perspective: an antiquated Leftism synonymous with the rising of the ethnic proletariat. Fair working hours, fair working conditions, fair wages, and maybe even a little distribution of the means of production.

Bernie and O'Malley were naively unaware that in the fever swamps of the modern Left, all focus is on race and gender and to suggest otherwise is not only wrong, it is a political crime. Today's Leftists are not concerned with raising the working class to the middle class, or bringing economic independence to the inner city. They are all about racial and gender-blurred grievances, and an unskilled, undocumented transgendered Guatemalan is far more important to them than an unemployed Irish steelworker in Ohio.

Lucky for the Democrats, the Netroots Nation is extremely small.
