Once again, conservatives are missing the point. The problem with blackface is that it's connected to a tradition of vicious racial charicture, and many of the people who try on blackface tend toward racial stereotypes. Lester Holt's "white face" is him using a particular person—Susan Boyle—as a character.

The sense is that Kelly was a bad bet, and she wasn't meshing with the network and the network decided to heave her because she once again waded into problematic territory with a tin-eared argument.

Ratter than a pre-textual reason, this was just the last straw.

Nice attempt at stripping the context from her statement. She didn't say that that black people look alike, she was making fun of Swisher's mistake of confusing Eric Holder with Corey Booker.

Do you really think that Clinton believes that black people all look alike? Or, are you playing the usual rhetorical game of finding some sin by Democrats in attempt to balance the scale with false equivalencies rather than accept that Kelly has always been an idiot when it comes to race and thus had no credibility to wade into the blackface discussion without getting into trouble.

Sins don't balance out. Both Clinton and Kelly can be bigoted idiots, or they might both be tin-eared innocents, but one doesn't exchange for the other. It's not golf, where the party with the lowest number of racist points wins.

Yeah a joke referring to the stereotype that all black people look alike, no matter how you slice it, thats a racist joke.

Admit it, if Trump had said this there would be twitter hashtags trending and breaking news stories on CNN and MSNBC.

There IS a double standard when it comes to the selective outrage on who or what is deemed racist.

Trump's a mean-spirited goon with no credibility. Again, you want this to be about a liberal/conservative dichotomy, or to show there's a bias. But, the fact is, some people can make a wry observation—about another person confusing two different men—without getting in trouble.

Trump just isn't that guy because of who he is. And, whiteface and blackface aren't the same. And, Kelly could have said something smart about blackface or political correctness, but she didn't.

But, keep trying with the equivalencies. I'm sure you'll get one right eventually.

The difference being that for Trump, it's not an exception - it's the rule. That doesn't excuse either behavior. But context matters too.

    No.

You know that. We've covered the cultural baggage involved. Unless of course you can drudge up the years of white face done by black people to publicly mock them, and this continues that tradition.

Did he mock Susan Boyle at all?

When I saw this blowing up on feeds from the right wing websites I just groaned. Then I was hoping Holt would make a statement say he's trolling the safe spacers, the way they get a kick out of rousing liberals. No word yet from Holt, so will have to wait on that.

    But sorry, no, not racist.

Does it show NBC can be flexible and possibly hypocritical on how it weighs things? Yes.

If NBC did or did NOT see this as appropriate, it's their baggage to carry. If they wanted press, they certainly got it.

I think you are forgetting the slave years. Definitely bought and sold them on the free market. However, unlike the slums of today - they were given nice housing, food, clothing, etc. They were treated better THEN than they are today. In fact, after slavery was shut down, many of them went back to their owners because they had it so good.

It's funny how the Right wing denies racism at all costs, except when it comes to Hilary.

Can anybody show me any source from any conservative group, TV network, personality, political activists, and etc, that has openly referred to another living white person as a racist, besides Hillary?

You are right, we do keep forgetting that.

Because I am sure the moment black people were released from slavery they walked into sun drenched fields of gold & honey filled with freedom. Oh wait, that wasn't real life...

    https://www.theguardian.com/world/2012/jun/16/slavery-starvation-civil-war

We are also leaving out that in cases slave owners weren't in the biggest hurry to let black people know they were finally freed so it took a few years for it to even reach Texas.

Ah, revisionist history can make anything look swell.
