Obama fully supports exploiting the Arctic for it's natural resources. He recently granted Shell permission to drill for oil in the Arctic Ocean. That was just four weeks before he visited the Arctic to lecture us and the world on climate change.

Yea, I know it doesn't make any sense.

It does make sense, he says things to appeal to his base while going and acting more or less the same as Bush did because the people who want that are the people with the most money.

Are we also saying that the same president who has been screaming about global warming is now granting permission to multi-national oil companies to take advantage of the melting caused by global warming?

I think they are saying that man-made global warming is a hoax but point taken.

If I'm understanding correctly: 1) this is unclaimed territory that 2) based on what it contains is strategically important, and that 3) it's about to reveal itself for exploitation and 4) if the U.S. Does nothing, 5) will get claimed anyway, and still drilled by multi-national oil companies, 6) leaving us out of the game and having to buy that oil from other countries, 7) increasing our already high dependency on foreign suppliers.

But yes, if Obama had the option to claim the territory and turn it into a national park and exclude multi-national oil companies and didn't, he's being a major ass hat.
