iTunes isn't recognizing my 2nd Gen iPod, and the updater only gives me the option to restore to factory settings. I was able to get the iPod into hard disk mode and backed up with PsyncX though.

If I move into the backed up folder with Terminal I can see all the songs. How would I go about putting the songs back on the iPod after restoring to factory settings - can I just copy them over in Terminal?

Interesting note is that the folder on my Desktop that contains the backup actually looks like a mounted iPod :p

[EDIT]We bit the bullet and restored the iPod to factory settings. I couldn't get iTunes to see his old songs by using Terminal, but when we got to his mom's house where his iMac lives, he was able to copy all his songs from iTunes back to his iPod
