Is the metallic pin always stainless steel? Or are they also available with a silver aluminum pin, for those who own a silver aluminum watch?

The sport bands that come packaged with different watches come with pins that match the case of the watch.

The bands you can buy separately, though, only come with silver (except that the black band can be had with either a silver or black pin).

And, yes, they're not silicone. Whatever the material really is (Apple calls it "flouroastomer", but I think I spelled it wrong), it's nicer than any silicone strap I've seen. Easy to clean, doesn't stretch, doesn't grab dust...

I think he's asking about the material it's made out of, not color.

The OEM Flueroastamer Apple band has a stainless steel pin. There is no aluminum pin. There is a black band option that has a black stainless steel pin.

The ceramic model has a ceramic pin. Not sure if the Hermes sport strap's engraved pin is steel or aluminum (probably steel, I'd bet).

So if I buy a silver aluminum watch with a white sports band, the pin will be silver color, matching the case....but if I buy additional sports bands the pins will always be stainless steel, thus NOT matching the case. This seems odd to me. Only the original band has a pin that matches the color of the Watch case?

Sports watch with white band has SS pin, not aluminum (nor match silver aluminum color). I think aluminum may not be strong enough or possibly bend if it was used as the pin. There is no aluminum pin period! Even if you buy SG sports w/ black band it comes with black SS pin.

Also it's not feasible for Apple to match all possible colors. There are 4 sports colors, 2 SS colors, and a ceramic as well as two real gold colors for the gen 1 Edition. They would be crazy to have all those SKUs

For this question, YES. If you get a gold aluminum AW, its sport band is colored gold, too. BUT, you can't buy another sport band with a gold-colored pin.

This response gave me hope that at least one band will match the watch case. But maybe this response is incorrect. Sorry, it's a lot of fuss over a minor detail. But sometimes the little things matter. Thanks to everyone for your input.
[doublepost=1476026429][/doublepost]Is it feasible to remove the metallic pin from the original sports band and swap it out with the non matching pin in replacement bands??

My aluminum gold Watch came with a gold pin. My wife's rose gold Watch came with a rose gold pin.

As others have stated, the only sport band bought separately that comes with a non stainless steel colored pin is the black one which can be selected with a black pin or stainless steel.

All Sport Bands have a stainless steel pin. When buying the watch new, the Space Grey, Silver, Gold, and Rose Gold watches come with a Sport Band with a colour-matched stainless steel pin. However, the Sport Bands sold separately only come with a silver stainless steel pin (the same ones bundled with the silver aluminium watches).

So if you want to buy extra bands separately and want the pin to match the watch, choose the silver aluminium model.

If it bothers you that much and it's in your budget you can always buy a SS Watch.
