Ya know, it's one thing to not like us, but this goes far beyond that...

    Absolute insanity.

    Madness. Disgusting. Unbelievable.

In the UK it would be illegal for them not to offer the same benefits to homosexual couples in a civil partnership.

This is the US, where hate rules. Every time I think it's getting better, something like this happens.

They don't have any useful ideas, so all they can do is sow hatred and fear. I'm sick of their crap.

You can't possibly be surprised. A lot of us been saying this is what these people are about for a long time. Did you think we were joking? What has to happen and how bad does it have to get before people realize just how far the Republicans are willing to go?

If they are missing that money SO BAD, they should just lop off a good portion of the schools budget. Use a machete, not a scalpel. This is what happens when you "use a scalpel". People will be mad.

I think we all know this has nothing to do with money.

You are certainly right. Not about to contest that.

My point though: Obama had his whole thing about "cutting spending with a scalpel." Well, this is what happens. The guys holding the reins to the money will cut/defend spending for purely political means.

Until we cut spending from EVERYTHING, lots of people will be pissed about the results.

You know you have a good compromise when EVERYONE is pissed.

All that being said, I still cannot possibly come up with a bigger waste of governments time/resources, except for maybe the "White Guilt" teacher vacation day I posted about earlier

They actually are taking a machete to the school budget. From the Washington Independent:

So this bill is essentially a machete to the school budget with this lovely little bit of discrimination thrown in.

I'm so glad I left Michigan and never looked back. It's a surreal experience to be in Michigan these days. Many people are so poor and desperate and don't have health care -- yet get convinced to vote republican who pass this type of crap.

It's sad that you can drive just over the border and your suddenly in a more enlightened land where its actually legal for two men to get married -- and no one worries about paying health care bills.

I have to keep telling myself that overall we are moving forward but that there are going to be temporary, bigoted setbacks like this one.

To whoever downrated all of the posts in this thread: If you have a problem with what Lee, rdowns and others have said, why don't you come out and say it, instead of hiding behind the post rating system? If you have something to say, say it.

and this is why Obama stopping the defending of Defense of marriage was a mistake. It needs to get the subprem court to force it to be legal.

I don't know if it is possible for the House to defend it, and it could be that Boehner is out of line in doing so.

Like with California and not defending Prop. 8, it would be up to the Administration (and more importantly, the Attorney General) to defend it. If they are not going to defend it, there is nothing that the House or the Senate can do about it.

However, IANAL, so I hope someone could verify this.
