    Thats.....amazing.

I'd love to see a GOP primary debate that wasn't just softballs and sponsorships. I want to see how these people deal with social issues on the national stage.

    Yep.

I'd say that sums up Bachmann quite well.

I have absolutely no trouble believing that Michelle Bachmann is convinced that lesbian ex-nuns are coming to get her.

How do these people get in to power? Maybe no one normal is crazy enough to run for office.

And the ignorant, bigoted or partisan vote for them.

This is so that the huddled masses talk about the nut-jobs, and not about what Corporate America is doing to them.

I want to know how much government money she has received from raising 28? foster kids.

Surely (sorry) you are not suggesting that she has somehow profited from the misfortune of others?

When I was a foster parent, we got about $600 a month per child to pay for food, clothes, supplies, and activities. The child also qualified for WIC if we wanted to use it. (Personally I didn't feel right going to the grocery store and buying a whole cart full of groceries and then using WIC to pay for a few basics.) Medical care was covered by Medicaid. It was enough money to cover the expenses, but it didn't put any cash in our pockets.

    Nuttier than squirrel turds.

I think the writer from the Atlantic was correct: we've entered the "why the hell not" stage of seeking the republican nomination.

I don't think he was saying she profited. Bachmann, like the rest of the GOP lineup currently, keeps advocating cutting aid and welfare. Meanwhile, her family farm has received hundreds of thousands in federal support, and I'm guessing she got some assistance with all those foster kids.

In other words, its not that she profited, its she's completely hypocritical just like the rest of them.

That's what I took from it anyway, I could be wrong

There is little doubt that she got assistance with the foster kids, but I really don't see any hypocrisy in volunteering to help children that need temporary homes while at the same time advocating to cut aid and welfare. She wasn't personally benefitting from fostering, and she surely put a lot of effort and heartache into helping the children. Has she stated that state money should not be used to help foster kids?

I misread the thread title. I read "abducted" instead of "abduction." Am I a bad person for being a little disappointed? I blame the perverse appeal of The Craziest F'n Thing I Ever Heard. But for it to turn out to be a simple paranoid dissociative episode on the part of a known insane person? Kind of a letdown.

As a European, is it possible to ask (even rhetorically) just why the Right in the US is home to so many maniacs?

This sort of stuff is beyond parody......

    Cheers

This is a definition of entertainment as a disturbing horror movie flecked with elements of grotesque comedy.
