Once again I am so happy to be living in the small islands of NZ, even if we are part of the five eyes collective. This is the sort of legislation that makes America look a little loopy.

Article sounds so biased that it's a complete joke. Snyder, an extreme right winger? He ran basically as an independent on the Republican ticket. True, he has sided with his Republican majority once in power (or more often, ignores their stupidity - like this bill - to focus on his getting his own initiatives passed), but an extreme right winger? Hah.

The emergency state manager law has also been on the books for decades - Google it.

No one could agree with the rape insurance or the process on how the Right to Work legislation passed (not disagreeing with Right to Work - just how the MI legislature pushed it through), but those are more instances of Snyder ignoring the Republican party antics to save his battles for more important (to him) legislation.

A direct attack on the First Amendment. Even the current SCOTUS couldn't let this one stand.

The supreme court just basically nullified the 4th Amendment the other day by allowing warrantless searches. By the end of the year I'm sure they'll have every amendment null and void.

This is pretty BS. Disappointing to see my home state try to pass something like this.

That was the work of Jennifer Granholm, political pundit and former Democratic Governor. He has since capped film subsidies to a set level per year at a much lower amount. In 2010-11, $125 million was given in subsidies. In 2013-14, only $25 million was given.

I was going to say the same stuff. Here in Michigan....he is not even close to being considered extreme right wing.

That webpage in that link is totally laughable. Wow...quite an unbiased page eh? It's 1000 times worse than Fox News.

And that means nothing, that part about "here in Michigan". Well, okay, it means that you think Michigan is pretty right-wing.

I was pretty alarmed when I saw the thread title and read the linked article.

After reading the text of the original bill (section 9f), and the proposed amendment. It is pretty clear, the fine is for illegal picketing, which was outlined in the original bill.

The blogger, in her article doesn't say that. Instead she says:
Here is the original text from 1939
    EMPLOYMENT RELATIONS COMMISSION (EXCERPT)
    Act 176 of 1939
    http://www.legislature.mi.gov/%28S%28kk310m55mydme445nztacg45%29%29/mileg.aspx?page=getObject&objectName=mcl-423-9f

423.9f Mass picketing; threats or force, picketing private residence, misdemeanor.

    Sec. 9f.

It shall be unlawful (1) for any person or persons to hinder or prevent by masspicketing, unlawful threats or force the pursuit of any lawful work or employment, (2) to obstruct or interfere with entrance to or egress from any place of employment, (3) to obstruct or interfere with free and uninterrupted use of public roads, streets, highways, railways, airports, or other ways of travel or conveyance, or (4) to engage in picketing a private residence by any means or methods whatever: Provided, That picketing, to the extent that the same is authorized under constitutional provisions, shall in no manner be prohibited. Violation of this section shall be a misdemeanor and punishable as such.

    HOUSE BILL No. 4643
    A bill to amend 1939 PA 176
by amending section 9f (MCL 423.9f).
    http://www.legislature.mi.gov/documents/2013-2014/billintroduced/House/htm/2013-HIB-4643.htm
    (1) A person shall not do any of the following.
    (a) Hinder or prevent by mass picketing, unlawful threats, or force, the pursuit of any lawful work or employment

    b) Obstruct or interfere with entrance to to or egress from any place of employment

    c) Obstruct or interfere with free and uninterrupted use of public roads, streets, highways, railways, airports, or other ways of travel or conveyance

    d) Engage in picketing a private residence by any means or methods whatever.”

SUBSECTION (1) DOES NOT APPLY TO PICKETING THAT IS AUTHORIZED UNDER THE CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES OR THE STATE CONSTITUTION OF 1963.

    Nice click-bait

If this is already covered by redress of grievances, it's just a matter of time.
