I was going to ask if it was working now. Saw that Xbox licensing services was offline yesterday as well. So it seemed like the to were related.

Nothing new for Microsoft. 🤣 I always had problems with them, especially their updates. Needed to cross my fingers and toes and hoped they worked after download.
This is the first issue I have had with locked out, crappy updates etc. For the most part my Win11 systems worked great. it's the backend GDID, Slamming copilot and ai into every arsehole of the system and general corporate mentality of Microsoft that made me want to try linux.

If you use the recovery key, they force you to reset the pin/password using Microsoft account for security reasons. If you don't have a passkey, there's a small link in the bottom corner of the window allowing you to use another method to authorize your pin. From there you can use a Microsoft account password, phone number, or whatever other recovery options you have set.
Have you tried accessing Teams via a Chrome/Brave/etc browser? That's how I do it from my Mac even though there is an app (and I even have it on standby but really haven't needed it). The app is 1GB of garbage and it's Electron anyway so why bother.
I am back on windows 11 now and I am just staying here. Enough messing around. it's where we are comfortable.

I totally agree. I started with Microsoft way back in the early years. On another forum @Ssherjj2 convinced me to buy a Mac ten years ago and I did. One of the best moves I made. I'll probably put Linux on my very old MS PC's and play around with it until the PC dies.

That scares me... I've relied on the website to get my keys - especially for older devices that relatives are using. Glad you're up and running...
On another note - it's amazing how unreliable Microsoft products are becoming (O365 at work) lately. Lots of outages. :/

BitLocker is a steaming pile of trash. I disabled it on a customer's computer just this morning because it almost locked them out of their computer. I was able to disable it for them. I've had BitLocker not work with recovery keys before and I won't put anyone through that nonsensical nightmare.

Today I had a telematic judgment. For work I use the Surface. Well, in the middle of the judgment, for some reason I don't know, the camera turned off and wouldn't let me activate it. Thank goodness they've at least let me continue with the judgment, but I've been pretty fed up with the Surface for several weeks...

As best I can tell MS doesn't automatically encrypt your device/drive unless you are using a MS account. If you are using a local account or are domain joined nothing happens (well the domain joined could encrypt but usually it waits until it can store the key in either AD or SCCM/Intune beforehand).

They force signing into a Microsoft account when you first set up Windows. You can still bypass this, but 99% of Windows users don't know how to do this, so it's on by default.

MS continues to close the loopholes that people use. It will get to a point where someone who wants to use a local account will have no choice. Like you said, 99% are already just sucking it up and dealing with the MS account

I haven't found a need or a reason to return to windows. I'm pretty happy with being on my macos and cachyos

Aside from being an AD admin at work, my home use is for gaming and even then mostly cause I have an Xbox Series S and therefore have gamepass for it which allows me to play games on PC as well. Seemingly no one has figured out how to emulate Windows to allow the xbox app to run on non-windows OS.

I wasn't using a pin, but a password, and there was no link, no nothing to bypass the passkey. All is good, as that error gave me the push I needed to move on to Linux. Life has been so much better, and more stable, so I'm happy to be off of windows.

Yes, they keep making it more and more difficult. I suppose if they eliminate it entirely from the set up process, you can just make a dummy MS account used only for signing into Windows, then making a local Admin account, and then deleting the MS account. I can't imagine they will ever permanently remove local accounts as they're needed for about a thousand reasons ... especially computers that need to remain offline.

It's gonna be Linux as ever more tire of Microsoft's words versus reality. Here majority of HW providers offer two flavours of Linux or W11. Safe to say MS has outworn it's welcome...
