I have been using the 6, 6s, 7 and was soooo excited for the x. Finally got it on Saturday and since then I just keep finding myself thinking if I want to go to the 8 (not the plus). I carry a 6 for work and the size/weight is significantly noticeable for me. Thinking with the upgraded camera on the 8, and the smaller size it might be a better choice for me. Anyone else?

I bought the 8 on launch day and then purchased the X last weekend. You are right, the difference in weight and thickness between the two is very noticeable. The camera on the 8 is fantastic and it is a smaller/lighter phone with the same internals. I still have 8 days to figure it out, but I am leaning toward keeping the 8 and returning the X. There is just not enough difference between the two to justify the very large price difference.

This isn't the first thread with nearly an identical title. I'm guessing you're not alone.
The threads I’ve seen were all comparing the x to the plus while I’m leaning more towards the regular 8

iPhone 7 (matte black)

Cheaper
Only 138g
Last series to offer metal backs
Better front camera in low light and dynamic range

X does have a thickness and heavier weight to it that feels like a Plus. My thumb can't always reach the top. It's 176g. That's phablet weight territory.

The matte black iPhone 7 is probably my 3rd favorite iPhone design behind only space gray 5s/SE and 2G.

Not crazy since the 8 and 8+ are the best phones Apple makes right now. X is a beta product and FaceID is objectively slower and less useful than touchID. Go with the 8, you wont be sad.

You’re not alone OP. I gave up the plus size with the 7 and haven’t missed it. Had an 8 and wasn’t even planning to buy the X until I got a surprise promotion at work last week. Decided to treat myself when I found stock in store last Saturday.

Love the big screen and the gestures more than I thought I would. But my screen is very yellow and it’s kind of driving me crazy. Also, the way Apple has calibrated its OLED panels leaves not a ton of difference between them and their LCD phones. Yes blacks are nice in a dark room, but I wasn’t nearly as blown away as I expected to be. Same goes for the cameras. Portrait mode is cool. But overall I’m seeing a lot of photos with the watercolor smudge thing going on. The camera seems to especially struggle in low light and I’m not seeing a ton of benefit from OIS on the telephoto lens (seems to still switch back to the wide angle in low light). Battery life is also not great. It’s maaaaybe the same as I was getting on my 8 or maybe an hour or so worse. No way is it 2 hours better like Apple is claiming.

I’m planning to give it a bit more time, but I’m finding myself having a hard time justifying the price of this phone. I can afford it, but I’m not sure it’s worth it. I may try to switch it out as it kind of sounds like I have a bad unit after I wrote all this out haha! But I might also just wait until next year and stick with the 8. I will say I like the direction Apple is heading with the X. Makes me excited for the future of the iPhone!

Yes I’m with you. Normally I’d be excited for new hardware but taking all into consideration I keep thinking about the 8. Will go to the store and play with it a bit to make a decision. Oh congrats on your promotion!

Guilty of thinking about it briefly, but I’m sure if I went to check out the 8 in a couple of weeks once I’m used to the X, it’d be a big nope.

Same here. I upgraded from 7 to X and was feeling the extra weight and size of the X wasn't worth it

So a quick visit to the Apple store and checked out the 8....After a week with the X the 8 /7 standard 4.7" feels dated

I think you just need to get used to the weight and size of the X

Its the future I feel

The 8 is simply a master piece.

Couldn’t agree more. Some say it’s the same old design and it’s just a 6sss, but it’s a refined version of a proven design. After playing with a X yesterday, I’m gonna get an 8+ and give Apple time to refine the X further.
