Not a coup - 'an illegal action'. Scary. So much bad news recently that I hope this turns out not to be some sort of major conflict. The people of Turkey have suffered enough.

Turkish PM says 'those responsible will be held to account and pay the highest price'.

He and who's army is going to enforce that? Quite literally!

Looks like part of military have taken over Erdogan out of country.Parts of military attacking intelligence services. All a bit fluid according to the BBC i.e they don't have a clue whats going on.

E2a: correction he's in Bodrum not out of the country.

Statement by military read out on Turkish television: 'to again obtain constitutional democratic human rights, we are officially managing the country' - @bramvermeul

Ok. That said military coups seldom end in a rainbow of democracy and gummy bears. Ankara announced a few days ago its intention to improve its links with Assad's regime, maybe it's played a part?

I guess we'll lend a couple of soldiers to help our ally soak up the big win then. Time for things to go Pete Tong.

Assuming, of course, the Turkish military isn't intending to turn around and do the same thing.

Funny that this happens right when the 28 pages are declassified, how convenient to take the focus off that other mideast country right near Turkey with the initials S.A. This is not a coincidence.

If it does devolve into a civil war, we can ill-afford another failed state boarding Iraq, Syria, and the EU. Better to pick a side now, and get involved, if it looks like it may go that way.
