Is this a Florida thing or something? I'm pretty sure you can't legally adopt a 42 year old where i live...

It doesn't make sense. The sole purpose of adoption is for legal guardianship, you no longer have a legal guardian once you turn 18.

If the legal system wasn't so screwed up he would not have to do something like this.

He wants to leave his money to her. His family will sue and contest the will - and likely win, costing a small fortune in the process and going against his wishes.

He took the best option left available to him... Like it or not.

No, he wants to avoid having to pay the family of the person he killed while driving drunk. He is a total scumbag.

I think we have determined a new, rather high, level of *******.

What, their incest laws don't include legal non-blood guardians?

    That's somewhat lacking...

This is not about that. I suggest you read the article. It is about the fact he is trying to lock up more of his assests for a wrongful death lawsuit he is involved in for killing another driver while we was drunk off his ass.

He still faces up to 30 years in prison. Of course with his money and more sneaky lawyering he'll probably get off.

I wonder what happens if they break up. Can he un-adopt her?

True on getting off but the bar for the civil suit is lower.
OJ for example got off in the criminal case but still paid a huge amount in the wrong death law suit.

That's a hoot. There is probably a gray area or black and white depending on how the laws are written, but this is where I'd expect the court to jump in, especially in light of the circumstances. What's even funnier is that his children are suing for their inheritance, lol. I don't believe there is any law that says that a child is entitled to inheritance. This is where tort reform is sorely needed in the U.S.

    Huffington Post.
