Minor color shift when unlocking iPhone 8

I just got an iPhone 8+. I notice that whenever i unlock the phone, I notice a slight color shift. If i turn off truetone then I don't see the shift. Is it just due to truetone adjusting the screen for the current lighting condition? I thought that the screen would've done its adjustment when i raise to wake? why is there a shift? is anyone else seeing the same thing?

I just checked it with true tone off, it still happens. I think it is a brightness thing. When i wake the phone up, it just dims slightly (not even fade like automatic brightness adjustment). Anyone else seeing this?
