I was wondering to what "charities" Romney had been so generous... particularly compared to Grinch... I mean Gingrich.
Well, the Mormon church is the 2nd richest church in the world next to Catholics; partly due to church members like Romney.
He is a Presidential Candidate, a front runner at that, and I assume the OP just wants to make those in this forum aware of his "philanthropy".
Well, apparently he has been. As a Mormon, it is his duty (which he has faithfully executed) to baptize as many people as possible, posthumously, in absentia. You will probably be baptized Mormon, if they can find a record of your existence. Unfortunately for the lambs-of-god, some people, like say Jews, are more than offended by being baptized, what with their history with Torquemada and others. They asked the Mormons to cut it out already, the Mormons said ok, ok, but it seems they have still been at it.
I don't have a problem with people donating to charity. It's his money and his choice of how to spend it. If he were president and giving special treatment to his church, that would be a different story. As a private individual, he has no obligation to donate to anyone else's religious organizations.
It is a Mormon thing. I had several friends that were Mormon and they tithe at least 10% to the church. Every church going Mormon does this.
So, maybe we should audit him to make sure he is tithing an appropriate amount. Gotta make sure the man is honest at least, more honest than Nut.
If Romney is the nominee there is going to be a flood of information come out about the *******e beliefs of that cult. It'll be entertaining, if nothing else.
I'm not sure what the goal is here. Are we supposed to be angry about this, or something? If so, what part are we angry about? Is it because of how much (or how little) he donated? Is it because he donated to the Mormon church and not to some other church?
I think Mormon insularity is the main issue here. Do you ever hear of Mormon Charities like you do Catholic Charities or Lutheran Charities? No. Why? Because Mormons only look after their own. The only remotely global charitable organization they back is their own Family History Library. It's self serving of course and brings in millions upon millions of dollar to Salt Lake City and other genealogy oriented businesses that have located in Utah. That's the problem with religions invented in America they only care about their own bottom line. Mooneys, Scientologists, etc.
