does anyone know of good and FREE .MOD video conversion program that's easy to use? i have a JVC hdd camcorder and of course the software it comes with is for windows which i refuse to run on my mac. why JVC decided to pick a non-standard format is beyond comprehension to me.

thanks

Are you sure it ONLY came with Windows software? I have an older Enviro HD cam that did come with Mac software.

Unfortunately it required an update and the update wasn't available at the time I got my Mac (or didn't see it) so I bought the quicktime plugin.

There is an update or something (search these forums) from JVC that will allow you to use their Mac software.

nothing new on the jvc site regarding my unit. i did find mpeg streamclip though and it looks like about the best free solution so far.

thanks

There was a trick to doing this. I posted it here somewhere about renaming the MOD to MPG but can't remember if it required either the quicktime plugin or the JVC plugin (plug in is format specific not camera specific) and creating a folder in which iMovie will import the files as if it were a camera.
