Here is to the experts:
So, I found an "US International" keyboard layout on the net, because OS X doesn't have it. It allows me to make letters with accents such as é, à, ç, etc, using the US keyboard layout I have on my MBP. (I know I could simply put the rsrc file in /Library/Keyboard Layouts but I don't want to have two keyboard layouts on the system because some programs tend to change the layout back to the "default" one).
So I had an idea: add this keyboard layout to the DVD install (a backup copy) and select it uppon install, making it the default keyboard - no hassle. So I tried adding it to the /System/Library/Keyboard Layouts on the DVD but when I reinstall OSX, it won't show up as an option. Should I change some keyboard layout bundle (maybe substitute a few files) to make it work?
Please help me with this, and thank you in advance.
