After selling more than one million Double Down sandwiches in less than a month, KFC has removed the controversial item from its menu, the restaurant chain announced Monday.

The sandwich's whopping 540 calories created a stir with advocates of healthy eating.

first they came for your happy meal
now they come for your KFC..

540 calories isn't that many. Its not much more than a standard sandwich.

What counts is what its level of fat/protein is.

About a month later it is removed, sounds like a limited time to me.

    Quotes from the article.

your naive to believe that it was solely based on that.
they were probably getting tons of hate mail from health nazis who want to dictate what you should eat.

Umm...WTF? Did you even read your own article? KFC decided to take it off the menu. No evil, nasty government forced them to do it. So KFC is now coming after...itself?

Wow- somebody needs to stop buying tin foil.

If KFC wanted to keep it on the menu, they would.

If it was a hate campaign Tim Horton's would be first on my list, none of them appear to be affected so the OP's reasoning is faulty to say the least.

Right. Because a local govt. passing a law is the same as a business responding to customer feedback or simply ending a limited time offer.

    Gee thanks for that.

Where in your article does it state about hate mail?

It states the product was intended for a limited release, one month is limited and a reasonably sensible time scale for KFC to choose.

    Also

Doesn't sound like a press release from a company forced by "tons of hate mail" to remove a product.

I think you are imparting a view on this story that simply is not there, at least not on the evidence you presented.

It has pickles and onions on it, which compared to the Double Down is practically health food. ;)

Indeed. It's nice to still see many familiar faces! :)

KFC's merchandising in Canada seems to make it pretty obvious that it was only a promotional addition to their menu.

They're going to come out with a new sandwich that's just a double-down between two pieces of bread, and maybe some lettuce thrown in there. Nobody will bat an eye.

Makes me believe they are sending emails instead of letters. Snail Mail would never allow for such swift action.
