And you have to pay Verizon to use Wi-Fi. Enough said. This thing is DOA.

    Engadget has updated the post:

Update: We've heard rumblings that this is indeed just a price holder -- much like the way other companies price products they don't want to sell at ridiculous levels -- and the final price will indeed be the $800 we've heard most consistently to this point.

I'm hoping this is a mistake, but Engadget said there's no indication that it's wrong.

Doesn't mean Verizon will have the same price point though. I hope ;).

The price is right. Don't you think? :-D
If the Xoom really sells for 1199$ Motorola is going to sell nothing. Steve Jobs is probably laughing now.

That... that can't be right surely? Getting on for double the price of the iPad would be suicide. If it IS right though that's one hell of an endorsement of apple's economies of scale in action...

They probably throw out $1199, lower it to $999 soon after and people think theyre getting a better deal.

With that money I can buy two iPads.

    Or

I can even buy refurbished MBA and refurbished iPad.

I will buy that tablet only if it prints money for 1199 dollars.

I'm going to get into my Monopoly car and drive to my Monopoly bank before driving to Best Buy.

I would pay $1,200 for it....

..if they gave me $600 cashback once I have received the delivery of this.

    DOA.

Or maybe if they packaged this with Jessica Alba. But that ain't gonna happen :D

Probably Motorola understood that the tablet's market is taken by Apple, so they decided to get the other segment of market where Apple is not going to compete.

Wow, did somebody actually think that lots of people would be willing to spend 1,200 when you can get an iPad much cheaper.

They are just trying to gain media attention. It seems that their Super Bowl Ad was nothing in comparison to the little lord of the Sith.

Even they try to make it a hip/exclusive type of tablet, who is going to spend that amount just to have a new version out in 6 months...

The lifecycle of this mobile platforms is going to doom them.
Even in a corporate environment you have to stick to the same old device for 1 or 3 years...even more

There is no way that they will keep it at this price, or it will be the biggest failure in motorola's history.
However to those who have been looking for a drop in price for the iPad, I guess you're out of luck.

May I suggest that's not going to be the actual price. It's just a price to hold one for people who wish to get one instantly they are launched.
It will not actually be this price once launched.

Either way is too expensive for an entry level. It's just $30 cheaper than the higher-end iPad. No WiFi only, and goes on Verizon contract, so I supposed is CDMA only; that is a bold move when most carriers in the world use GSM. What market are they targeting really?

This photo made the rounds last week and we all thought that the Xoom will be expensive. Now we have Best Buy's website having the tablet available for preorder for 1,199$.

I had no interest in the base model iPad and I paid $729 for the one I ended up with.

This thread shows me how a lot of you guys can suspend disbelief to help the cause, and how little most of the users in this forum actually know about consumer electronics.
