A somewhat hidden feature not spoken of directly during today's WWDC keynote is a new app for iOS 9 called "Move to iOS," which will allow current Android users a hassle-free migration experience from their Android phone to the iOS ecosystem.

Once downloaded on each phone, the app will help users securely transfer all of their important data: contacts, message history, camera photos and videos, web bookmarks, mail accounts, calendars, wallpaper, and DRM-free songs and books.

In addition, Apple claims the app will "help rebuild your app library, too," siphoning through any free apps used on Android and suggesting them as downloads on the iOS App Store. Simultaneously, any paid Android apps are immediately added to each user's iTunes Wish List as future reminders.

I wonder if Apple would allow a Move to Android app in their App Store. I seriously doubt it.
It's not that they wouldn't allow it just cause, it's that it would have to take advantage of third party APIs in order to work and apple only allows their own apps to do such.

That's Apple own way of saying "It's never too late to dumb your Android, and move to iOS. Welcome aboard"

The thick of it

That's a really nice feature, giving the impression that the user isn't giving up much by switching to iOS -- except for the fact the user will apparently have to re-purchase the iOS versions. What if Apple had made it a policy that the Android app equivalents in Apple's App Store would immediately be available for download at no cost? That would certainly sweeten the pot for anyone on the fence about switching.

Google should reject that app. Simply because Apple will never allow such an app on their platform.

That's called acting like a child and not following the rules you put in place. Apple control their App Store tightly and always have. Google never have. Googles loss.

And could cost them more than the phone they just sold, all up millions for all switching customers. Developers still need to be paid.

That's because you can easily download apps that aren't from the Play Store. It means that you can get iOS apps for free if that'd happen. E.g. If I download an .apk of a paid app (Minecraft Pocket Edition) then I used the Move to iOS app. Then I can get Minecraft Pocket Edition for free now. If that, and only that will happen.
