Hi there

I was curious if it's prohibited to use tracks from movie soundtracks for personal work even if the movie and composer are listed in the credits?

Any idea?

any music, sound track, images from a movie , TV show , CD are owned by the movie company & protected by copyright laws, so if you using something and putting it on youtube etc you may find the clip gets pulled.

In short, there's no easy answer.

Fair use used to be more clear, now the DMCA has mucked it up quite a bit.

Also there's alot of speculation going on right now that hasn't been tried in court... consider this page:

It has some great ideas that make sense, but don't take it as gospel. Much of it has not been proven in court and is relying on some assumptions on the interpretation of the work(s)

Review the "fair use" test here:

for your work. In the end, it's a decision for you to make.
