After I installed 12.0 I can not update my office apps anymore using the updater that came with the office install. Anyone else having this issue? They just return update error.
Thanks.

I have always found the MS updater to be a) fragile, b) network verbose and c) likely intrusive. Some time ago (2? years) I uninstalled the 'downloaded from MS' Office and installed from the Apple App Store. Now, no MS updaters and reliable updates via App Store.

What is that update error that you get when you try to update?

Sounds like the MS updater app is not quite there for Monterey.
Sometimes, betas are not worth the effort.
If that's important to you - why not wait for that Monterey (12) upgrade? Move back to Big Sur.
Wait for MS to announce support for Monterey.

I have often found that MS Office is responsive to brute force: uninstall/reinstall. You could try that with just the Microsoft AutoUpdate app. I know that can be downloaded from MS.

First time it launched on 12 it crashed on my MacBook. After a reboot I manually opened it and it was fine. The app can be manually opened in: /Library/Application Support/Microsoft/MAU2.0/Microsoft AutoUpdate.app

Same problem here... beta channel

Worked okay, PB1 on my 2013 tcMP. Updater updated itself, relaunched and found an update to Outlook. Since I have Office 2016 nothing else will update since 2016 is no longer supported.

Had the same issue about two days ago, tried updating Outlook to the beta channel. What fixed it for me was just rebooting the MBA.

This doesn't address your problem but it worked for me after crashing the initial time I opened autoupdate. It has been keeping mine updated since...

Well, it's still not working, so I decide to dip into the AutoUpdate log files (specifically TelemetryUploadFilecom.microsoft.autoupdate.fba.txt) to see what I could see. And there's a pattern with every failure.

Every time an update fails, it fails with a RemoteInspector XPC connection to relay failed error.

Code:
[Microsoft Update Assistant] <Error> InstallUpdatesTask.RetryResponse: {"UpdateID":"3C9B4E70-E295-4448-A797-AFD950092F07","IOC":"YES","Error":"RemoteInspector XPC connection to relay failed.\n\n","UpdateName":"Excel Update 16.52.0 (21080101)","AppID":"XCEL2019","BundleVersion":"16.51.21071101","UpdatePkg":"Excel_16.51.21071101_to_16.52.21080101_BinaryDelta.pkg","Success":"NO"}

Digging around, it appears there's a WebKit error that looks related Bug 228303

Hopefully this will get resolved in an upcoming Monterey beta.

I have had this exact problem for some time now. The only thing that Autoupdate will update is itself. Nothing else.

I end up having to go to the Office 365 website and redownload the installer package.

Just tried it. Same problem. Update error.

Just figured out a workaround for that works reliably and repeatedly for me. It's as simple as:

1. Quit Safari
2. Run the MS AutoUpdater

For the first time in 6 weeks, I have an auto-updated O365 on Monterey
Wish that were the case for me. Quitting Safari and rebooting accomplished nothing. I even ran Onyx to clean out any possible files that would interrupt.

^^^^I'm sorry, and if it doesn't, and there is another way, you don't want to know what it is❓

This worked for me too. I quit Safari and a whole number of other apps. Suddenly AutoUpdate went through as usual.

Thanks - that worked for me - just to be sure I quit many of my open apps
