These guys felt the need to burn a poppy, and chant about British soldiers burning in hell during the 2 minutes silence today at 11:00 on 11/11/10 in London.

You can read up about it yourself on that link, but it's just a disgrace..

Yeah... And one thing the article doesn't mention.. Are they UK citizens? UK born? If not, they don't deserve to live in the country.

    It just says "Islamic protesters"

Freaking ridiculous. Free speech or not that is disgustingly disrespectful.

I don't know why it should even say that. They were simply protestors, probably British-born, too.

The British Army taking part in an illegal invasion, killing hundreds of Iraqis and using cluster munitions around Basra was probably a little "disrespectful", too. War is such a messy business, isn't it?

I'd be surprised if this didn't happen to be honest. Just remember that these are sad extremist arseholes and don't represent the views of the vast majority of British Muslims.

And don't click on the link. The Daily Mail is as poisonous as the people doing the burning.

...as were the BNP and EDL members in the counter-demonstration.

    So are subjective assertions.

Please point out where I made any assertion whatever.

Exactly. The Daily Mail's own extremist brigades. Of course the irony is lost of all those protesting and counter protesting.

The day we allow hate to dictate the agenda is the day we really forget what Remembrance Day is supposed to be about.

That whole thing is an assertion. May be your opinion that it was disrespectful but someone else may view it as necessary for security.

Being a free society means that you occasionally have to put up with disgraceful displays.

Are we really going to have that discussion again?

You have these people all over. They are an exception, not the rule.

It's just a group of idiots carrying out a meaningless act.

I support their ability to do what they're doing and I support their right to cause offence. Causing offence shouldn't be illegal, not in any circumstance.

I also support the freedom of the British press to publish any 'Mohammed as a bomber' pictures they want to. Although that's also idiotic, it's an equally valid expression of opinion which shouldn't be curtailed by any blasphemy or other nutty religious legislation.

I hope this level handed guarantee of freedom that these fine bearded gentlemen are enjoying is not lost on them. I'd expect them to jump to the defence of any newspaper in this - their country of choice - that chose to republish the Mohammed cartoons.

I understand the whole freedom of speech era about it.. But when there are veterans there whom have lost family, friends, and been injured due to WW1 and/or other wars, it's just completely idiotic that they decide to step in and say "All British soldiers are burning in hell".

Thank you for roiling my complacency. I had forgotten that there are still people who actually believe that.

There's no such thing as hell, so they're clearly wrong.

It must suck to have upped sticks and moved to a country/society whose values you don't share and whose citizens most probably dislike you for your views. Not the sharpest tools.

I'm an atheist myself, it doesn't matter whether Hell does or doesn't exist, it's still the principle of saying it...

It's fine to disagree with them, dislike them, criticize them.

But what law would you have parliament pass to 'deal' with them that wouldn't diminish the freedoms we all enjoy?

They are pushing their luck in my opinion. One american nutjob threatens to burn the Qur'an and the entire muslim population is in outrage. Muslims burn a poppy during remembrance day in our very own country, and we are expected just to 'remain civilised' about it?

****em. Get them outta here. If we are expected to respect their beliefs and opinions, then they should do so with ours.

I think the word "probably" probably disqualifies my post as an assertion. Just food for thought, that's all. No knee-jerk reaction necessary.
