I own a 2019 16" MacBook Pro

AND

A 2019 15" MacBook Pro

I don't understand why there is such a speed difference...

What exactly do you mean by "snappier"? Maybe a clean install would help.

for example, if i click on app store at the same time, the 16" loads it quicker. that's for basically all apps.

The 16” has a bigger fan therefore it runs cooler and can be be run at a higher clock speed for longer periods of time.

but i'm talking about basic tasks.

Turn off computer, turn it on, open keynote at the same time...and the 16" loads it faster.

That's for pretty much every app.

Not sure how I can make my 15" 2019 faster

I thought you were returning your 16" because of all the problems you have with it like the yellow, musty screen that looks so terrible. And because of how it didn't look space age enough compared to the 15". What gives?

I'm starting to like it tbh. The screen is still yellow though which is no good.

But I like the bigger screen, the keyboard is nice, speakers can't be beat, and it's FAST!

Unquestionably, a clean install. Make a bootable USB Catalina install, use disk utility from the USB install to wipe your 2015 hard drive, format APFS if it has an SSD, then clean install Catalina. Then download clean fresh copies of apps. Manually port over any data you need. Do not reinstall anything from time machine, or migration assistant, or any image backups. Do everything new.

This will eliminate all the detritus. Will make an enormous difference.

Do you plan on using 2 computers though or are you eventually just gonna migrate to 1

Well here's my situation:

These are expensive machines so it's probably wiser to keep one rather than two since I don't really NEED both. I also have a 2017 12" MacBook which I love.

So either I'm going to sell my 2019 15" MacBook Pro and take the a loss.

OR

I'm going to return the 2019 16" MacBook Pro because LUCKILY I found out that I have until next month to return it.

I just haven't decided which one I want to keep yet.

UPDATE:

I upgraded to Catalina and it seems snappier overall...

No need to do a clean install (it seems)

I should add, if I return the 16" I would get more money because I would be taking a loss on the 15"

But at the same time, I do want to keep the computer I enjoy more.

Frankly, they're really similar in day to day use.

I like both tbh but my heart is with the 15" because it just looks so much nicer than the 16".

I just wish the speakers were as nice as the 16"

EDIT: Also, if someone needs to upgrade to 512 GB I would just go with the 16" because you're getting it for "free"

I don't need 512GB I'm only using 122GB on my 15" and could delete a whole bunch of useless stuff if I wanted. I don't really use more than 80GBs

While I can't speak for all the complaints about Catalina,

In my experience so far, this update is BUTTER

Literally the best computer experience I have EVER had (2019 15" base model)

Guarantee he returns the 16” before the Holiday return period. He’s done nothing but complain about it since day 1 but for some odd reason despite his hate for it he’s still using it.

Probably. I like the bigger screen, and speakers. I don’t like that it’s yellow.

also I’ll get more money than selling my 15”, which is appreciated.

I do want to keep whoever 1 I enjoy more though
