    i don't know what gives.

last night i was on cydia and i did the "upgrade essential" so all my stuff is upgraded...and this morning, i was making/receiving calls just fine, but then stopped.

    and i have 5 bars.

it won't even let me go through. just CALL FAILED.

    i've re-booted 3 times and still nothing.

before someone jumps down my throat, i've looked through pages of searched "can't make calls on jailbroken phone" and i couldn't find anything.

    please please help :(

Have you done any firmware upgrades recently? What is your firmware version? Are you unlocked?

When you connect to iTunes, you can click "Check for Updates". It will want to upgrade you to 3.1. You can click "alt" (Mac) "restore" and select a previous version (if you have one). If you're at 3.1 already, then you might be screwed for a while. You can put your phone in DFU and restore that way. But note that I would recommend trying this ONLY if you're already at 3.1. Once you upgrade to 3.1, you will not be able to downgrade and will not longer be able to jailbreak your iPhone (until and if the DevTeam can do their magic).

If you are not at 3.1, wait for other advice.

If you are at 3.1 (iPhone Settings General About Version):
    Connect to iTunes.
Press and hold the power and home keys for 10 seconds, then release he power key and continue holding the home key until iTunes sees the iPhone. It will then ask you to restore the iPhone. Go ahead and follow he onscreen instructions. Remember - this will put your iPhone at 3.1. You will not be able to downgrade and will not be able to jailbreak. But this should get you back up and running.

Note: I have jailbroken and restored 2G and 3G iPhones. I currently have a 3GS and did not jailbreak it. I did enable tethering. I upgraded to 3.1 and have been trying to downgrade to 3.0 unsuccessfully. There are things with the 3GS and 3.1 software that I am not familiar with. How it interacts with jailbroken phones, I also don't know. So take this advice on getting your phone working again with this in mind.
