I'm new to the forum, but not to MacRumors or Apple. Last week I bought the new iMac 20" 2.4Ghz. My previous mac was a G4 Quicksilver. a HUGE upgrade and I couldnt be happier! True....there is a color shift but it doesnt bother me. I'm a motion graphics designer and video editor so color shift is not a real problem with me. If I do need to proof the output, I will connect to another monitor depending on the project (i.e. doing video work will connect to a tv for title safe, color, ect.). The screen is glorious and its blazing fast! The graphics card is amazing also. Since I don't play games on my mac and only use it for work, the GPU works perfectly for what I need. So the bottom line: I couldn't be happier with my purchase. And if you do Motion Graphics/Editing, I would recomend this mac hands down!

    Sounds great,

I was thinking about trying to keep my G4 towers as my main systems throughout the rest of tiger and through Leopard. But readings posts like this really makes me want to finally switch to intel.

    welcome to the forums too.

I also have the 20" model and love it. If you dont sit near or infront of the computer, the color shift could be an issue. But I have no issues with this computer except that it is so awesome!!! It is SO MUCH faster than my Imac G5. This is the computer that pushed me to upgrade and I am glad that it did. I am glad that I waited for the upgrade!

Me too. I was a little nervous about going to an all-in-one. especially with doing video work and upgrading hardware and such. But I can see this thing lasting me as long as my G4 did and I got it back in 2000 and has not let me down since! But with clients needing more advance graphic work in promos I needed to up my system but I didnt want to lay down 3 grand just for a tower and a grand for a monitor. That will come in time. but for right now, I feel like I made and EXCELLENT choice!

So glad to read that people are using (and liking) the new IMac for Motion. I was all set to take the plunge and buy a Mac Pro...waiting until October in the (probably vain) hope that there would be at least a graphic card upgrade by then (if not, at least I get the new System). But was having a hard time wrapping my head around the pricetag...

Then I saw the new IMac in the Apple Store last weekend and fell in love (or at least 'this will fit my budget and apartment so much better' lust).

I do a lot of work in Motion, and while I'm usually at work (using a Dual 2.7 GHz G5 Power Mac) I find myself doing more and more prep work at home...on a preIntel IMac that just isn't working out any more).

Would love a pat on the head to say that I wouldn't be an idiot to get the new IMac and that it will be just fine to do Motion and FCP work on it (especially since the IMac seems to have the same graphics card and similar processor speed as the old Power Mac I'm using at work...which does a damn good job running Motion and FCP)

And heck...in three years I can always buy another IMac if need be with the money I saved!

I'm getting my iMac in 9 days and people on here (And a jealous friend who bought an iMac back in March, despite me telling him to wait) have been making me think "Mhhhm Do I really want one now?" but you single handedly made me want one again! Thank you :)

I'm an amateur animator and video editor with a small online fan base and am buying my iMac for editing my videos. I'll be using my iMac for pretty much the same thing you're using your for, so thank you for reassuring me that it will be a good buy :) thank you very much :)

you're more than welcome! It irritates me how so many people look down on this amazing product! but not all of us have 4 grand to put down on a Mac Pro. True, it may not be GREAT for print work, but for video and motion graphics, its awesome! You've made a good choice trust me!
