Need advice on buying used a used iMac 27” 5k 2014 4ghz i7 3tb fusion drive and 16 go ram for 1000$ CAD? Worth it? Or too old?

I’m looking to do some editing, multitasking as I will be using it for than just a web surfering screen. Not professional, just getting my feet wet.

Is it a good computer for price? Or would I just be better off getting a 2018 mode with lesser spec s and an ssd drive?. Price isn’t a huge concern. It’s more of a can I get by with just spending the 1000$ for an older rig. But if it’s too outdated I’d rather not waste the time.

There is no 2018 model
Personally if you can wait and in no rush hopefully the 2019 will be out soon putting a bigger discount on the 2017’s
I still rather go full SSD on a newer model than spend 1k on a 5 year system

I would personally avoid imac 2014 and 2015, they have too many problems. An imac 2017 i5 with 256ssd and 8gb ram (you can expand later) and 575 or 580 GPU is enough. Right now I would also consider a mac mini.

The 3tb internal platter based drives have a bad record (2013 models even had a replacement program for them).

I'd suggest looking for an Apple-refurbished 2017-design iMac, or even a 2015 model if they still offer them.

Awesome guys thanks a lot! Will bite the bullet and just buyer the latest model! Cheers. Thanks for saving me the hassle.

TBF I bought a 27" 2017 base model for £1150 which is faster than that in all regards and graphics performance is roughly double.

Worth having a look on FB for sale mine was 10 months old with extended applecare and retails for £2100 roughly half price for a current (obviously old) machine. They are around £1450 in the refurb store.

I didnt want to pay the premium for old hardware and think its a good way to save some money... 50% in 10 months ouch... so much for apple hardware keeping their value.
