iPod touch Need help getting video onto my ipod touch

When ever I try and upload a video to my ipod it makes me convert it to ipod format. But when I play it on my ipod the video is just black? The file is an mp4 so it should work. Any help?

Where are you getting the video from?

How did you convert the file?
Did you convert it by changing the extension, or with an actual converter?

well i was new to ipod touch and found out it only reads standard def. maybe thats that problem because i had a hd show and it plays white screen.
