If the place is really new, it's possible the owner/manager is an Apple fan, and submitted his business info to be added to Apple Maps first? Or maybe Apple was just faster in adding it.

It’s a chain, so not sure, but I’m guessing the latter. Extremely rare example though.

Hah...well, only two reviews for that rating.

Pretty damn good chicken IMHO...but for me, it’s simply on my way home from work.

Will maybe cheat tonight and scarf down a bunch of Gray’s Papaya hot dogs...

I don’t have new maps by now however some time ago I found that maps got a smart searching algorithm by the way

From the beginning apple maps have the mistake of write down a street of tour town and show you first other one of another city or country. I hate that so much but I take care that I’m 12.2 it doesn’t happen and it works right

Had a bit of fun over the weekend (and a couple days prior) but did a leisurely trip up the west coast via 1 from Ventura to Big Sur and back. Ate well, hiked a lot. Enjoyed some great beaches and scenery. Wanted to spend a full day at Hearst just roaming but they don't allow that :( Salmon Falls is great atm - heavy flow ;)

Anyway - I did a side by side on an 8+ Apple Maps (AM) and Google Maps (GM). Switching back and forth to give each a chance.
Has Apple maps gotten any better or is it just some eye candy?

Conclusion: Eye Candy.
I might go into detail later but here are the high points:
  • AM showed me one option to get to Moonstone (day1 ). GM showed me three.
  • AM gave me the incorrect directions on transitioning from the 101 to the 1 in San Luis Obispo.
  • I ran into several areas where service was 4G (AT&T) or there was no service at all. AM failed totally while GM (off line map option) still did fairly well. Have to make sure you still can get basic GPS. Hint: windows ;)
  • AM 3D onscreen (graphics) frequently lagged showing a black screen with a grid in low signal areas.
Outside of these items, both did well.

I hear what you're saying, but I don't think anyone is claiming (properly) that Apple Maps POI and navigation abilities have been upgraded yet. Its been promised but so far only the background layer (how it looks, essentially) seems to have been upgraded and then only for select areas (CA, NYC, etc...). Apple is not going to slide this one out there without a lot of fanfare ("Maps 2.0!"). Not saying Apple will reach feature/ability parity with Google Maps even then, but at least give it a chance to formally be updated!

P.S. Sounds like an enjoyable trip!

It was! Great time ;)
Was worried that the recent rains would cause the closure of the 1.
The AM SoCal update was kind of nice looking. My hope was that the update was more than just eye candy. I do hope they keep upgrading AM. For now GM is my tool of choice.

The switching back and forth may have contributed to the loss of graphics. I did a drive out to the barren areas of Pennsylvania a few weeks ago. I completely lost cell service a few times en-route, but Apple Maps never stuttered.

How did you lose cell service yet maintain the data stream for the map?
When I lost service on AM, the map detail that existed did not go away, it didn't update (except for the blue dot that became erratic) and as it moved new map area had no detail.

What am I missing? o_O

YESSSS!!!! Rollout continues! I'm on normal iOS 12.1.4, and I got the update today. The entirety of Arizona and New Mexico were added to the new Apple Maps data, as well as the entirety of Clark County in southern Nevada, which includes all of Las Vegas.

What's interesting, is I was just looking around Vegas in navigation mode the other day, and I didn't see anything new. But from what I'm seeing today, it's all up to date. All new buildings where there hadn't been any before, more detailed representations of the casinos on The Strip, and of course all the parks and golf courses. Here are some new shots!

Damn...another POI win for Apple when I was visiting a client this afternoon.

I know where it is since it’s right up the street from my office, so I figured I’d ask both Apple Maps and Google how to get to UBS.

Google first...pin placement was definitely on the wrong side of the street, so I checked the address...also wrong. Even the first picture associated with the search shows the correct address. And this isn’t some small company...it’s the whole building!

Apple Maps has it marked perfectly and with the correct address.

...and yes, I’m sending a correction to Google.

No, it doesn't move.

Why? The London Eye moves in Apple Maps??

Well...wait...it doesn’t...but it does in some program. Not Google either.

Someone remember for me...I’m too tired...

Edit: OH! 3D satellite view...not 3D map view...try it.

I can’t post my screen video here though

Oh wow, you're right! The London Eye does move. I've never really played around in 3D satellite view before. Wow, if you zoom out to show the whole planet, it even shows you the current sun coverage.

IMG_8572.PNG

I checked the 3D satellite view for Vegas, and...the High Roller isn't even there! The 3D satellite view seems to have been built upon older satellite data. The High Roller hadn't been built yet, so it's not represented in this view. That's really odd, since the High Roller is there in the regular map view (and fully detailed), and the 2D satellite view shows it.

The 3D buildings representation isn't perfect, even on the new maps. Take the Plaza Hotel in Downtown Las Vegas. The 3D building (map view) representing the Plaza's parking garage is the same height as the hotel itself, when you can see in the 3D satellite view that it's not nearly as tall.
[doublepost=1551535061][/doublepost]That didn't work...the forum isn't letting me upload my second screenshot. Weird. Oh, I guess it was too large. I downsized it.
