it's a thing that takes space. the overwhelming majority of people who purchase a homepod mini are not going to use PoE functionality, so those engineers would need to redesign the internals to make space for an RJ45, that's a decent chunk of space in a product that isn't very big.

again its the only port needed. for the normies it would be the same rj45 exit with a usb-c pd input on the other side.
as it stands currently the damn thing has a -fixed- cable tail... you call that good design?
if 30 years ago 3com could develop XJACK rj45 ports that popped put of a single slot pcmcia card, this can be done too.

My local store has not had HomePod mini stock in all week, and the latest replenishment date is now showing as next week.

If new Apple TVs and Homepods were going to suddenly appear in stores next week, wouldn't there need to be a press release this week giving a lead time on preordering?
Or, is there a history of products suddenly being announced as "available today" with a press release?

The likely scenario would be announcement next week and available the next week. I’m not sure the store refresh next week is related to the HomePods and Apple TVs, they’re probably quite an easy product to swap out on a display shelf or table somewhere compared to new wall graphics/window displays for the holidays.
That makes more sense, as I would think a press release would involve preordering, which would mean a week's lead-in.
Please release soon, Apple. Ready to take the plunge.
