That’s the sad part. iOS 12 will look nothing like this.

It’s sad that a company with extremely talented people and literally billions of dollars cant come up with software designs as good as normal consumers.

What’s sad is that these ideas all all over the web and we won’t see any of them implemented. It’s not like this is a one-off. People have been asking for dark mode for years.

I don’t like a lot of concepts, but I do like this one.

Making cute drawings on PhotoShop is not the same thing as engineering an operating system.

    Plus this concept is horrible.

I have zero opinion on what iOS 12 should be because it needs to be outstanding for how poor 11 has been (it's getting better). This video is well done though.

I am so upset when I see this. It is monkey work to source OLEDs and make a new model iPhone. All the competition will be doing the same. They had at least two years knowing this was the direction they were going.

They didn’t bother. At all. Working on a dark mode which is a must for an OLED screen. The whole point of it is to save energy by lighting up pixels that need to be lit.

Apple has gotten lazy beyond belief. I don’t want to deal with the Google kool aid. If windows phone were still an option I would have switched. These operating systems really only have a 10 year life before they become a real mess.

It’s time to re-engineer the system from scratch. The extra billions they have lying around will go for what? Stock buybacks? Give me a break. Spend it on a new modern OS. Start it with features missing like the original iOS. That’s fine. I don’t use half of what’s in there. Build it up over the years.

It just needs a solid browser and people can get by.

I hate how so many people make these beautiful concept videos when in reality it's completely off. Apple always barely changes anything big about the OS and just adds pointless features full of bugs. I actually don't want new features in iOS 12 and simply just want a whole new version of iOS dedicated to bug fixes and stability improvements.

You should tell that to iPad users as far as how little iOS 11 changed for them, for example.

They didn’t ask for it before iOS 7. It amuses me how many now dislike the look of skeumorphism because it looks “dark” and gaudy yet those same people are now begging for a “dark” mode.
We already had this covered before this whole flat BS came into play, now everything is white so everything can be “consistent” which is what you all wanted isn’t it?

Notice how the apps in iOS 6 that are white aren’t fully white, but use different gradients/hues of blue and grey that blend together so they’re less harsh and more easier on the eyes? Notice how every app isn’t white and each one looks different from the other which apparently you people back then saw as a bad thing? But no, you wanted “consistency” so you got it with tons of white thrown in your face. Now every app looks the same whilst simultaneously blinding you.

They already had this s*** figured out in the first place, but because of that idiot Jony Ive who has no clue about UI design we are now left with this mess where people are asking for yet another accessibility setting to go along with; button shapes, reduce transparency, darken colours, reduce motion, bold text, invert colours, reduce white point etc. And now you want another setting on top of that with dark mode. Sorry, but when you need all of those settings just to make the UI more bareable then that makes the UI a complete fail to me. It’s been a complete failure since iOS 7 because they no longer have anybody there who is good enough at their job, they fired all the good ones that were and put a hardware guy who has no experience with software in charge of the look. Just stupid. Cooks worst decision by far and just the fact that he got rid of a guy (Forstall) with more experience and knowledge about iOS than anyone currently there and replaced him with a hardware guy shows how much of a bad CEO he can be.

    TLDR;

iOS 6 was smart design, we just didn’t realise it.

iOS 7 - today = awful design, we are just now realising it (although I came to this immediate conclusion on June 10th, 2013).

Who is « we » exactly? I prefer the iOS 7+ design over the iOS 6 one and this have been the case since its unveiling in 2013.

    iOS 6 was a UX/UI Nightmare.

I don’t prefer a design of an OS that is white in every single comparison in the shots I posted above which results in us begging for a dark mode which we may not get.

When I say “we”, I’m referring to those that want a dark mode. I don’t recall anybody wanting nor asking for one before iOS 7 because the design of iOS 6 and prior was more smart in the fact that they had every app use texture, bolder readable fonts, and different shades and hues rather than thin fonts with every app being plain white that is harsher on the eyes to the point where everyone is now begging for a dark mode. When you have to resort to having accessibility toggles enabled in settings like bold fonts, button shapes, reduce transparency, reduce motion, reduce white point etc. which did not exist in <iOS 6 then the design is a complete fail to me. Why do you think everyone wants a dark mode? Why do you think they are now wanting a fresh design with some depth added back?

Yes, it was such a nightmare that it was the reason why the iPhone became the most popular phone in the world with those six versions. It was so hard to use the iPhone back then, I have no idea where all of this “iPhones are simple and easy to use” schtick came from tbh /obvious sarcasm. It wasn’t the hardware that did that, it was the software. The hardware is merely just a fancy shell to sell the software. The screenshots above of iOS 7 are the real nightmare. I have no idea why anybody would prefer to be blinded by thin fonts and tons of white within every app, but hey, your tastes are clearly completely different to mine. The left screenshots are more pleasing to my eyes, easier on my eyes, and don’t have me squinting. The right is like a roughly thrown together draft version of iOS that was made in the early 2000’s.

Flat design is now passé just like how you two think skeumorphism is. It is dull, boring, lifeless, harsher on the eyes which is bad in the long run. It’s probably why iOS 11 has thick bold headers in every app now because the folks at Apples eyesight has probably deteriorated due to too much thinness and whiteness over the past 5 years.

I love those comparison posts between iOS6 and iOS7. I have good memories of iOS6 and previous releases, but these posts really emphasizes to me how much more beautiful and clean the modern look is. iOS6 UI had easier to see buttons, but that's also the only thing that's more positive about it.

Now, if they could just go back to the iOS7 music player and remove all the "APPLE MUSIC IN YOUR FACE!"-junk, then I'd be a happy guy.

7 was never finished and sooooo inconsistent. There are parts of both I like.
However this predominance in using white needs to go. Especially with OLED.

They always seem to do minor graphic adjustments and nothing huge. I dont understand why people go crazy about dark mode, but i wish they would add it so everyone would hush about it.

Double tap the home button on an iOS 6 device and that’ll explain plenty.
