New Jersey Police Crack Down on Teens

    They weren't prosecuted for anything.

    And its not against the law to shovel snow for money in New Jersey (or most anyplace else.)

    The problem is they were going door-to-door offering their service with a permit to do so. Which apparently violates the local municipal ordinance regulating direct sales.

    If they'd simply tacked up a flyer at the local supermarket or Church, or put up a website offering their services - there would have been no issue.

    Many municipalities have ordinances regulating (if not completely banning) door-to-door sales. For better or worse, its a consequence of living in a democracy, where people get to decide what rules they have in the place where they live.

    And kudos - if anything - to the police for simply giving these young shoveling entrepreneurs a warning, rather than issuing a citation.
