    Hi all,

So I'm new to the iPhone jailbreak game so hopefully someone knowledgable can set me straight. I'd want to buy a new 16 gb iPhone and have it "activated" for two months before I move to the UK. This would allow me to use it as an iPod for two month before I sign up with a plan abroad. What is the best way to "activate" the iphone for two months, then unlock it for use in the UK. All comments are much appreciated.

ps. if the 3G iPhone is released, doesn't Apple have to go throught the FCC first before going pubilc just like the iphone introduction- meaning that everyone would have a heads up when its coming?

Right now, you can activate, jailbreak, and/or unlock a brand new iPhone with ZiPhone. There are plenty of threads about this.

The 3G iPhone is anticipated this year. I could already be going through FCC testing.

    so in layman's terms...

    1. activation allows you to use the iphone as an ipod?
    2. jailbreak allows you to use 3rd party applications?
    3. unlocking allows you to use the phone on different carriers?

exactly right - accept you have to jailbreak the phone before you can activate it!

This is because in order to activate the phone some of the files need to be changed and this can't be done unless it is jailbreaked first!

One slight correction, activation usually allows you to use the phone functions if your SIM is from the same carrier as the iPhone. For example, you could use an AT&T pay as you go SIM on a US iPhone. It lets you use the phone without signing up for an iPhone plan.
