I think this falls under the category of "Really??" I mean, come on. The "design a flag" thing is about getting kids to think about ideas. The staircase could easily be argued as showing that capitalism is a firm base. And the militia thing...well, I thought the tea party wanted to identify with the founding fathers. Nor can I understand the paranoia over the CSCOPE website being behind a log-in screen. Seems kinda basic to keep the lessons hidden from the kids before you teach them, doesn't it? There's no hidden plot there. This would merely be funny...if Dan Patrick, the Republican chairman of the state Senate Education Committee, wasn't putting together legislation to control the curriculum, backed by (according to the article) "parents, activists and lawmakers who say CSCOPE is a Trojan horse sneaking liberal ideals of socialism and cultural relativism into the classroom." * Sigh. *
Am I missing something, but isn't "Allah" the word for "God?" It is kind of like saying si is yes, or non is no, or bain is bathroom.
How dare they use the word "Allah" somewhere in a book as a reference to God, you know because all of those Allah-loving terroristic people are going straight't hell with their communist sway, dark skin, funny clothes and such... God hates that. When it comes to politics, guns, religion, and paranoia, I'm embarrassed to say I live here. These kinds of articles really paint conservatives in a very intolerant paranoid light, but maybe it's just a liberal conspiracy to smear God's chosen? Yeah, but 'Allah' is a terrorist's word and somewhere one of the targeted books said something nice about the Middle East, that's one of the many issues regarding this communist plot.
Allah is merely Arabic for God. It is mostly used by Muslims and not every Muslim is a terrorist . If you ever read an Arabic language Bible the word Allah would be all over the place. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allah
Wow. It must be difficult to be a conservative, I can't imagine being that paranoid all the time. Their nerves must be shot.
You'd like to think that wouldn't you? Left winged ideas have transformed the state of California into a sinkhole. Do us all a favor and help contain the plague instead of spreading it to other states that are still functioning properly.
Well, let's ignore the fact that California's current troubles began when they let companies like Enron run hog wild, creating energy "shortages", charging exorbitant rates and ultimately leaving people without pensions. That's hardly a left-wing idea. Oh, and where was Enron based? Texas. That's not even mentioning the fact that the most right-leaning states -- the deep south -- are some of the ones least functioning properly.
If you really want to know what a plague is, it's the CONservatives who want to hold us PROgressives back in California. The Pros are supposed to outweigh the Cons.
FWIW, my reading of the data source indicates that Texas' budget gap has already been closed. Check out the projected shortfall column - TX $0, CA $15 billion. Also, Texas has a "rainy day fund" of extra money sitting around - the balance is over $8 billion. http://keranews.org/post/some-lawmakers-ready-tap-rainy-day-fund
1. Curse you for correctly interpreting the numbers. 2. Are they using the rainy day fund to pay off or account for most of the budget shortfall?
The conservative groups are probably outraged that the children aren't being brainwashed with religion.
Yes, we have a sizable minority of people in the US who think withholding information or providing dogma and/or propaganda is better than telling kids the truth and letting them sort things out for themselves.
Just so you know. No . I'm not on prozac. Or any other type of anti-psychotic drug. I take it for my chronic anxiety and ptsd. It is prescribed for many veterans.
Sorry. I don't think so - but I don't really know how that gap was closed, TBH. Sounds like the only use for the RDF that Gov Perry is indicating approval for is some water and infrastructure projects. (Many of his opponents are pissed he won't let the funds be used to restore some of the $billions cut from public education a few years ago.)
