Apple announced new switch ads are coming this weekend:

Apple's second series of ads featuring real people who have switched from PCs to the Mac® will debut during CBS's broadcast of the U.S. Open tennis tournament this Saturday and Sunday. The six new ads feature "switchers" from a wide variety of backgrounds: an attorney, a veterinarian, a trucking company owner, a software manager and two students.

Print ads are expected in mid-September in major magazines. Celebrity ads have been rumored in the past.

yay! hopefully these will run more often... or perhaps i just dont watch enough to see 'em... yay! i wonder if this means we won't get celebs?

:)

FA NOMINAL.

I know they dont want to make macs look like complicated or super-powerful platforms... but i'd love to see a hollywood director talk about Editing with FCP, Moby or BT talking about using a mac to create his albums, etc. Show some more power but ease of use.

I'm lookin forward to this, i really like the switch ads, as many of us do. My personal favorite is Ellen Feiss, although the Will Ferrel one that debuted during the KeyNote comes in a close second. Hopefully there are funnier ones to come:D

THe Ellen Feise one totally sucks, even though it is kinda funny. ANd I dont care what anyone says, she doesnt look like a college student. SHe looks about 13 years old. Anyways :D.

I hope we get celebrity adds soon, because I think more people would switch if they saw the will farrel add, then if they saw a different one lets say.... Ellen Feis :D. Well, I hope the ones that come out are good, because the current ones are kinda boring. Maybe some different music or something  ?

I think these ads suck....

We have a beautiful OS and the bundled apps are tremendous. Show them instead. Show them running Office and IE if you have to. These are the things worried potential switchers need reassuring about.

Or show more of the hardware. What's the point in paying a fortune to the guys who design the awesome new iMacs or the architects who do the stores if a huge potential audience is missed.

OS X is revolutionary. A few assorted (and let's be honest, occasionally weird) people talking about them just washes over a whole lotta viewers.

new switch ads

can we get one with somebody smashing a profile to bits with a sledgehammer...then showing the person recording on a DV and editing it with music on a powerbook and iMovie...that would make anyone switch.

switch ads

and then the switcher trying to edit hid .mov on a Gateway Profile and it crashing on him while he is editing it. then he comes back to the profile with a chainsaw and smashing the Profile with an iMac, him turing on the iMac and finishing the edit on the iMac

Litmus test for those who will never switch

Hey folks I figured something out the other day about the PC world. I noticed that many of the PC folks around have all these ugly stickers on their laptops, CPUs etc. I finally asked one women who just got her new Dell, why don't you take those Intel stickers off? Her answer "I don't care." So I started asking about all those ugly stickers people leave on their laptops-its like being a billboard for Microsoft and Intel etc. I mean I would take something like that off my Mac in about 2 seconds when I unwrap it. These people don't care. They care so little about their boxes that they won't even finish unwrapping them before they use them. They'll go around for years resting their palms on "Intel inside" and "Microsoft Windows." The one that really got me was someone who just got a new Sony PDA. Very nice color screen, camera the works. The thing looks real slick, but he won't remove the stickers!! I said take that junk off, but he thought they would help protect the surface of the PDA. Yeah, the surface he'll never see. So, do you think these people will ever care about how good looking a MAc is or anything about the elegance of the system? They all probably still have plastic on their lamp shades and sofas. My message: If you see stickers on their computers don't even bother trying to get them to switch, they don't live in the same Universe we live in. Later, MOM

OH my god you are so right . Did you ever see the stickers that the EMachines come with?? I have seen ALOT of people who leave the god awful things on . Laptops too...they leave the stickers on about the audio system ...the chipset..all the garb that is supposed to be on there for display at the store. Its like leaving the platic on your new couch......

I agree - but then that's not important as for those of us in the UK don't appear to have Apple advertising anymore. The "Switchers" campaign isn't allowed here due to our government laws on mentioning your competition in your ads! It's definietly slacker than a few years ago, but the death of Think Different seems to have eliminated UK ads altogether. I recall that great 10 page Apple ad in MacWorld when Windows95 came out... "imaging that!" - it was wonderful!

And when they DID have ads on TV here, they always had Jeff Goldblum, who although very good for the part, has an americal accent which immediately distances people from the advertised product in Britain. Shame.

Thoughts?

Yeah,

I remember those Goldblum ads (I hail from the same part of the world as you.....) but since I didn't use computers much then, I didn't pay much attention.

I suspect that the sad fact of the matter is that Apple probably views the UK market as too small to devote the required resources to. Not that they wouldn't run the ads if they could, just that they won't make new ones solely for Britain.

Perhaps some internet ads (though not spam) would be more cost effective there.

Some of these people make me embarrassed to own a Mac, and they go on the premise that you have to have one or the other, which closes the door to PC users willing to "try" an entry level Apple system. Just please apple, bring back the fly or something, just no more dorks on TV.

I especially like the stickers that say "Designed for Windows 98" or "Designed for Windows NT." If I see someone running XP on a machine that says "Designed for Windows 98" I chide them for upgrading. Why would you want to run software that your machine wasn't designed for?

Chris

Hey, I'm looking to replace my Toshiba laptop with an iBook or Powerbook in the next few months, and it has a couple of decals, but they're not very intrusive. One is a translucent "Intel Celeron" sticker, the other is a "Designed for Windows XP" sticker. Apart from the fact that they don't get in the way, they also seem to be fairly firmly attached.

Ah well, you never really expect most Windows-based laptops to be design winners! The only company that accomplishes much in that department is Sony.

Really I think she looks older closer to 30. Although I am 24 and have a different perspective then you probably do

I agree that her ad sucks and she looks young. I don't think she looks quite as young as 13, but I'd put her in the 15 to 16 year old category. I heard from a woman that I'm dating that Ellen Feise was supposedly stoned during the making of that commercial. That's funny! But that would make me think she's not 13 or at least I hope not.

I've also heard that there's websites dedicated to her. That's pathetic. And here I am talking about her. That's even more pathetic.

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

psh, she looks far from 13, shes probably atleast 16, 23 at oldest

i'dd love to see a will ferrel commercial (similar or the same as the mwny one) cuz it was the funniest switch commercial there is

Having watched that advert, it comes as a surprise that she was stoned? "And I was... like... muhn?" She's like stoner personified.

!?

I like the switch ads and all but I wanna see PC VS MAC commercials like Gateway did, then people will see how the mac is better then a PC, I have a couple PC friends that have been changed from "MAC HATERS" to "PC HATERS" They still own a PC but they know that the operating system is better on a mac then on a windows. Macs simpily rock, and there is no force on heaven or earth that can take that thought away from me.:D I'd also like to see commercials where they show off the hardwre and OS X. personaly I love all the iMac and iBook commercials!

SPREAD THE WORD: MACS RULE!
