New York’s Mayor DeBlasio and his activist community board now allow drinking and peeing in public.

Squatting down and taking a heathy steaming pile of **** on the sidewalk is next.

Because it’s racist to disallow, the City of New York will allow drinking and relieving oneself in public. This also comes as the city is relaxing rules on public drug use, open alcohol container rules, public masturbation, and excessive noise in this sweeping “Criminal Justice Reform Act.”

Like I’ve said in this board before, the progressive left name their initiatives for the exact opposite of what’s in store for the public at large. Criminal justice? It’s just criminal.

Why do you think that you should have a permanent criminal record for one of those acts? The city most likely does not have the resources to go after everyone who has a warrant for these offenses, which is why they have over 1.2 million active warrants. Given that they don't have enough resources to enforce them as criminal offenses it is very interesting that it seems as if the majority of the effort put into enforcing them is directed at minorities, and I bet just as many white people get a bit to drunk and relieve themselves in public as minorities. Personally if I lived there I'd much rather have the police dealing with crimes that actually effect other people instead of chasing down people that got to drunk. Obviously relieving oneself in a public area is a health hazard, but considering most of those people are likely drunk knowing that it is a criminal offense isn't likely to be a deterrent.

    Your article says:
Based on your article you likely could still get fined for them anyway. And as a "freedom loving" conservative shouldn't you like government getting smaller and reducing the amount of your personal life that they infringe on?

Getting cited for pissing in public would give me a permanent criminal record prior to this? How about a parking ticket? Is that part of my permanent criminal record? If you have ever been to Manhattan, parking tickets are nearly inevitable.

And if you work for the U.N., paying parking tickets is unthinkable.

Socialists in New York allow peeing standing up, socialists in Sweden won't allow peeing standing up, I'm going to get confused traveling now, standing, sitting, squatting? I wish they would make their minds up..

Sure, lets start allowing people to **** in the middle of 5th ave. Look away especially if they are a "minority". Masturbate on a subway, let the little Asian have a go. We're seriously talking about throwing out all civility so people can act like animals because we don't want to come off as "racists" at any time.

    DERP.

You either didn't read the article or didn't comprehend what you did read in the article.

Urinating in public is still illegal:

"The proposal would remove the possibility of permanent criminal records for public urination and violating park rules, mostly treating them as civil offenses, along with public drinking, littering and excessive noise."

It is common to have minor offenses such as drinking in public, park hours violations, and public urination be civil offenses. If a person is exposing themselves publicly, lewdness laws would apply and they could obviously be charged criminally for that and arrested. This is just another example of FieldingMellish trying to stir up outrage from nothing, because he/she doesn't fully understand what they have read.

if pissing in public came with the possibility of a permanent record then I wonder why it took so long to over turn such stupidity.

My God, don't people have anything better to do?

Things so simple like this shouldn't requiere more than a 30 minute talk between two sane people to get them straight.

Triple the cost of the fines, but don't make it a permanent blackmark on a criminal record. PROBLEM SOLVED!

The City of Chicago does not consider public urination a criminal offense. Fines are now $1000. The only people I have ever seen pissing on the street are drunk bros in Wrigleyville.

Read the article, it is still not allowed, it is just being downgraded from a criminal to a civil offense. Anyway since you usually are conservative and for individual liberties I'll repeat what I said to the OP. Shouldn't it be a good thing that the government is getting out of people's lives and not having these laws restricting your freedom to do what you want when and where you want?

...save for public masturbation. A line does need to be drawn there.

They don't make it totally clear, it may be that the conviction eventually drops off the record, but the article isn't a very good one. It's mostly designed to incite rage from people only reading the headline and nothing else.

New York Times on the subject.

    http://www.nytimes.com/2016/01/21/n...ng-how-police-handle-minor-offenses.html?_r=0

There's a social justice angle to it all.

“We know that the system has been really rigged against communities of color in particular,” said Ms. Melissa Mark-Viverito, who has promoted such reforms and is the main sponsor of the bills. “

Great. Now we know for sure which race has been doing all the peeing, spitting, drinking, masturbating, etc. Good work, Melissa.

There is a marked difference under DeBlasio compared to Bloomberg. The city is seamy now, and getting seamier.

    And Melissa Mark-Viverto? Here's a Newsday columnist's take.

"NY City Council sees racism at every turn"
