    Hi

Whated to know what platform (blackra1n, snowrain, etc) should i used to unlock and jb my 3gs on 3.1.2 & firmware 05.11.07? I also do not want to the tethered version, where if my phone dies/or roboots, that I need to jailbreak again.

Also what do I do first unlock or jailbreak?

these might be stupid questions but new to this world.

    thanks

which jailbreak program you choose has nothing to do with whether or not its tethered, the edition of your phone makes that decision. and you have to perform a jailbreak before you can perform an unlock.

If you have a late-model iPhone 3GS whose serial number begins with “MC” (newer than week 40 of last year) you can use redsn0w to jailbreak but you are currently restricted to “tethered” rebooting. That means you need to connect your device to a computer each time you boot it – so just try no to reboot.

so if im not mistaking, you will have a tethered jailbreak. so you can use redsnow to jailbreak. and with that baseband, you will use blacksnow to unlock.

so what steps do I follow to unlock & jb? is there a sticky?

my previous iphone 3gs with 3.1.2, I had it unlocked/jb at a store, and it was untethered? how is that possible from what I read here? did they downgrade the firmware?

sorry. i edited my post while you were posting. serial number will determine if its tethered. bootroms were changed on late model 3GS. thats why it tethered.

after you jailbreak, open cydia and download blacksnow for the unlock.

MC does not automatically mean tethered JB. i have an MC model and an untethered JB

    i love this statement!

right. which is why i stated week 40 or later.

if 4th and 5th number of serial number are "40" or above, very high chance of tethered jailbreak.

nope, you bracketed the statement, tying it to the MC status of a serial number.
If you bracket a statement the sentence should read perfectly true without it.
This is clearly not true, the MC serial numbers have nothing to do with tethered JB's, and i was only trying to lower the confusion that your statement would create.
